Overview

Head of QA - 3 days onsite Brooklyn, NY. We are seeking a visionary, hands-on Head of QA to design, scale, and lead our quality assurance strategy in a fast-moving startup environment. You will take full ownership of product quality, establishing the frameworks, processes, and culture needed to deliver with speed, precision, and confidence. As the champion of our AI-driven QA transformation, you’ll architect cutting-edge automation, implement best-in-class practices, and build a world-class QA function from the ground up. The company is located in Brooklyn, NY and will be 3 days onsite.

What You Will Be Doing

• Strategic Quality Leadership & Architecture: Develop and execute a long-term QA vision aligned with the product roadmap. Advance our Playwright-based automation frameworks, define best practices, and make key decisions on tooling and infrastructure to embed continuous quality into the development lifecycle.
• AI-Driven Innovation: Drive the adoption of AI to enhance testing speed, accuracy, and scalability. Evaluate new technologies, implement safeguards for AI-generated tests, and mentor teams on applying AI effectively in QA.
• Process Ownership & Quality Advocacy: Lead the full QA process—from requirements analysis through release sign-off. Establish and track KPIs, enforce robust methodologies, and act as the organizational voice for quality across engineering, product, and business teams.
• Team Leadership & Mentorship: Build and lead a high-performing QA team. Mentor engineers on advanced testing techniques, enforce rigorous quality standards, and recruit top talent. Foster a culture of collaboration, innovation, and shared accountability for quality.
• Cross-Functional Partnership: Act as a strategic partner to product and engineering leaders. Provide actionable feedback on feature feasibility, communicate risks clearly, and ensure quality is prioritized at every stage of development. Communicate complex technical concepts effectively to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Required Skills & Experience

• BS in Computer Science or Engineering strongly preferred.
• 8+ years of progressive QA experience in SaaS/eCommerce platforms, including 3+ years in a formal leadership role.
• Proven success designing and executing QA strategies for scalable, resilient SaaS APIs, distributed systems, and cloud-native architectures.
• Expertise in observability, diagnostics, and full end-to-end QA processes.
• 3+ years of experience in startup environments (ideally US-based) and managing offshore/EU QA teams.
• Strong background testing modern applications (React, JS, Node/Nest.js).
• 1+ years hands-on experience with Playwright and solid JavaScript/TypeScript skills.
• 2+ years API testing experience (REST, GraphQL) with Postman, Insomnia, or automation frameworks.
• 2+ years working with SQL and NoSQL databases for test data and validation.
• Cloud experience with AWS preferred.
• 1+ years in frontend/backend performance testing and optimization.
• Demonstrated track record leading teams through change, innovation, and scaling QA functions.
• Interest and experience in AI-led QA, leveraging AI-powered developer environments (e.g., Cursor, Windsurf) to accelerate test creation and execution.
