Job summary

Amazon Development Center U.S., Inc. in Austin, TX seeks a Software Development Manager to lead the OpenSearch Core Foundation indexing team, guiding senior engineers and shaping scalable indexing and cross-region replication strategies for managed and Serverless offerings.

You will partner with product and business stakeholders, drive technical roadmaps, and elevate operational excellence while recruiting top talent to ensure high performance and customer impact across large data workloads.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of engineering team management experience.
• 7+ years working directly within engineering teams.
• 3+ years designing or architecting scalable systems.
• 8+ years leading the definition and development of multi tier web services.
• Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software/hardware/networks development life cycle.
• Experience partnering with product or program management teams.

Responsibilities

• Lead and grow an organization of senior engineers for OpenSearch Core Foundation indexing system.
• Define and execute technical roadmaps for OpenSearch indexing systems.
• Drive architectural decisions for large-scale distributed indexing systems, consistency models, and cross-region index replication.
• Partner with product and business stakeholders to translate customer requirements into engineering priorities.
• Establish operational excellence standards for indexing systems, including availability, latency, and durability targets.
• Recruit, develop, and retain top engineering talent; build a diverse, high-performing organization.
• Collaborate across OpenSearch and AWS with peer SDMs and Directors to align on shared infrastructure.
• Communicate complex technical strategies clearly to senior leadership.
