Job summary

Capital Region Land Conservancy is seeking a Director of Land Conservation to oversee easement acquisition, stewardship, and enforcement for CRLC’s expanded service area, including coordination with the Executive Director and staff.

The role leads a team and partners with landowners, attorneys, and boards to implement CRLC’s mission while ensuring policy compliance and effective land protection across the Richmond region.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Natural Resource Management, Land Planning, Real Estate or related field.
  • 7-10 years of successful experience at a land trust or related work.
  • Valid driver’s license and regular access to a vehicle.
  • Live within the Richmond region.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the Conservancy’s conservation easement acquisition program from application to recordation and oversee ongoing stewardship.
  • Coordinate with Deputy Director to oversee fee simple acquisitions and dispositions.
  • Prepare documentation for Board approval and convene Easement/Owned Land Committee meetings.
  • Oversee baseline documentation reports and land management plans.
  • Negotiate with landowners on measurable and enforceable restrictions.
  • Collaborate with landowner attorneys, appraisers, tax brokers and other professionals.
  • Support balance between conservation and development across the Richmond region.
  • Assist with grant program requirements and accreditation processes.
  • Oversee and enforce compliance with deeds and easements.
  • Develop and maintain CRLC policies and processes.
