Job summary

Primary is building agentic cash and treasury software for startups and high-growth businesses. We’re establishing our US presence from New York and seeking a Head of Finance to own the finance function and be a public voice for the brand.

In this high-ownership role you’ll sit in sales calls, lead early implementations, and answer client questions directly. Expect a role with high autonomy, visibility, and meaningful equity in a fast-scaling fintech.

Qualifications

• Finance leader with startup or high-growth experience and liquidity/treasury fluency.
• Comfortable being visible to buyers, prospects and clients.
• Experience as a buyer of treasury, banking and FX products is a plus.
• Excellent communication; able to explain technical decisions to executives.

Responsibilities

• Lead the company’s finance function, using our product and serving as a credible reference.
• Own the finance stack: accounting, cash/treasury, payroll, revenue, and reporting.
• Be the voice in sales motions, speaking with founders, CFOs and peers.
• Create external thought leadership through writing, webinars, podcasts and events.
• Be a public face for Primary in US content, podcasts, webinars and events.
• Run point on implementations for large clients from signing to live.
• Stay connected post go-live to support ongoing onboarding and troubleshooting.
• Feed market learnings back to product as prioritized signals.

Primary is building agentic cash and treasury software for startups and high-growth businesses. We were Australia's Emerging Fintech of the Year in 2025, are backed by Australian venture firms like Carthona Capital, Afterwork Ventures & Archangel Ventures. We’re now building our US business from the ground up from New York.

We're looking for a Head of Finance. On paper you'll own Primary's finance function. In practice, this is one of the most outward-facing roles in the company: you are the finance practitioner our buyers see, hear and trust. You'll sit in sales calls, play point on our early implementations, answer client questions directly and be a public voice for Primary in the US market.

This is a high-ownership, high-autonomy role for someone who has run a finance team and wants their next chapter to be in front of the market rather than behind a close calendar. You should be excited to be in the NYC office building alongside the team.

What you’ll do

Our buyers are CFOs, Heads of Finance and controllers. They trust other finance people. The fastest way for Primary to win in the US is to have a credible operator on our side of the table who has lived their problem.

In this role, you will:

• Lead Primary's own finance function. You’ll run it on our own product, so you're our sharpest user and our most credible reference
• Own Primary’s finance stack: entity accounting, cash and treasury, payroll, revenue and billing, board and investor reporting, and the models behind fundraising and planning.
• Show up in the sales motion as the practitioner voice. You’ll lean heavily into conversations where a founder or CFO needs to hear it from a peer
• Create and carry Primary's thought leadership point of view externally: writing, webinars, podcasts, panels, community and event presence in the US
• Be a public face for Primary. Represent us in content, podcasts, webinars, events, dinners, LinkedIn
• Run point on implementations for our largest clients, from signed to fully live
• Stay in the support loop after go-live, so that the person who onboarded them is still the person who picks up when something breaks
• Feed what you learn from our books (and theirs) back to product as prioritised signal

What we're looking for

• You've run finance at a startup or high-growth company and have fluency in liquidity, yield, FX and multi-entity treasury.
• You’re comfortable being visible. This role is designed for those energised by being in front of prospects and clients.
• You've been the buyer of treasury, banking and FX products. You have opinions about what's broken.
• Strong communication skills. You can explain a technical decision to a founder and hold your own with a CFO or an auditor.
• You've already built AI agents for yourself to automate parts of your existing role or personal life.
• Sales, customer-facing or founder experience is a strong plus. B2B SaaS or fintech exposure is a plus.

Expected base compensation for this role is $200,000-240,000 per year plus equity.
