Job summary

Cerbo, an OptiMantra healthcare technology company, seeks a Head of Design to own the design function for two platforms. You will build standards, a shared design system, and a player-coach team culture.

You’ll work hands-on in Figma weekly, shaping UX for both Cerbo and OptiMantra with autonomy. As the first design leader, you’ll partner with Product and Engineering, run usability sessions with clinicians and staff, and drive AI-enabled design initiatives across workflows and decision support.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of product design experience with leadership of a design team or function.
• Portfolio showing range: complex workflows, data-dense screens, onboarding flows, and clean UI.
• Systems thinker who builds design systems and maintains consistency across features.
• Strong UX and UI skills; expert in Figma with ability to map clinical workflows end-to-end.
• Experience managing designers (employees or contractors) and providing clear feedback.
• Comfortable working across two products with different design philosophies.
• Able to partner with front-end engineers and present design rationale to PMs and leadership.
• AI in design processes; able to point to concrete examples.

What You'll Do

Most Design Lead roles mean inheriting someone else's system, someone else's team, and someone else's problems. This one is different.

As our first Head of Design, you own the design function across both Cerbo and OptiMantra — the standards, the team, the culture. You're building from scratch. Two products, two design philosophies, one shared mission. The work you do here will be visible in every screen, every workflow, and every patient interaction.

This is a player-coach role. You'll be in Figma every week, shipping your own work alongside the team's. You'll report directly to the CPO. If you want a clean canvas and real autonomy, this is it.

Primary Responsibilities

• Build the design function. Establish design standards, a component library, and a shared design system that works across two distinct platforms.
• Own the end-to-end user experience for both platforms. Cerbo is a power-user, configuration-heavy product. OptiMantra is clean, guided, and role-based. You hold the UX vision for each without letting them blur.
• Partner closely with Product and Engineering. You sit in discovery, review specs, challenge assumptions, and push for better solutions. Design is not a service desk here; it is a strategic function.
• Talk to users. Clinicians, practice managers, front-desk staff. You run usability sessions, observe workflows in the wild, and bring user evidence into every design decision.
• Design for AI. Intelligent workflows and predictive tooling are on the roadmap. You will shape how AI shows up in the product experience.
• Ship. We are a small team that moves fast. You prototype, test, iterate, and deliver production-ready designs. Pixel-perfect decks that never ship are not what we need.

Required Skills & Qualifications

• 7+ years of product design experience, with at least 2 leading a design team or function. You still design every week, and you like it that way.
• A portfolio that shows range: complex workflows, data-dense screens, onboarding flows, and clean consumer-grade UI. Bonus if it includes healthcare or clinical software.
• Systems thinker. You build design systems, not just screens. You see the patterns across features and create consistency without killing creativity.
• Strong in both UX and UI, and an expert in Figma. You can map a clinical workflow end to end and make it look beautiful at the same time.
• Experience managing designers (employees or contractors). You set direction, give sharp feedback, and manage quality and throughput without micromanaging.
• Comfortable working across two products with different design philosophies. Cerbo is dense and power-user oriented. OptiMantra is clean and guided. You respect the difference.
• Technically fluent enough to partner with front-end engineers on implementation, and a clear communicator who presents design rationale to PMs, engineers, and leadership with conviction. You understand responsive design, accessibility, and what is feasible in a sprint.
• You use AI in your own design process (prototyping, research synthesis, content generation) and can point to concrete examples. AI fluency is a baseline expectation here, not a bonus.

Bonus points

• Healthcare, EHR/EMR, or clinical software design experience.
• Experience designing AI-powered features (ambient documentation, clinical decision support, intelligent automation).
• Experience building a design system from zero in a multi-product environment.
• Motion design or prototyping skills (Framer, Principle, or similar).
