Job summary

Onterris, Inc. is seeking a Director of Cybersecurity Architecture & Engineering to lead a small security engineering team and drive the design, implementation and continuous improvement of core security tooling and architecture.

The role requires hands-on technical capability across firewalls, EDR, SIEM, and WAF, plus governance with the MSSP and GRC teams. Remote within the U.S., with travel as needed.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of progressive information security experience including hands-on tooling and team leadership.
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field.
• Experience managing or partnering with an MSSP for SOC/NOC functions.
• Experience implementing CMMC and/or NIST SP 800-171/800-53 controls in collaboration with a GRC function.

Responsibilities

• Lead and mentor a security engineering team focused on perimeter and endpoint security, detection, monitoring, and vulnerability management.
• Serve as hands-on technical backstop across tool domains (firewall, EDR, SIEM, WAF) and step in when needed.
• Own the MSSP relationship, including SLAs, escalation processes, contract performance, and renewal.
• Serve as Tier 2/3 escalation for security incidents raised by the MSSP; provide containment decisions.
• Collaborate with the GRC team to ensure technical controls required for CMMC, NIST 800-171, 800-53 are designed and maintained.
• Design and maintain security architecture standards for network segmentation and IAM boundaries; align with roadmap.
• Define OKRs and metrics for the security engineering function and report risk posture to executives.
• Partner with development and infrastructure teams to remediate vulnerabilities at application and infra levels.
• Oversee workforce planning and maintain runbooks and tool ownership documentation.
• Track threat landscape to update security strategy and architecture.
