Utica National Insurance Group is seeking a Director of Casualty Underwriting to lead profitability, portfolio performance, and risk strategy for casualty lines. Hybrid role based in New Hartford, NY or Charlotte, NC (Ballantyne).

Qualifications

• 10+ years of advanced commercial casualty underwriting experience.
• Experience managing profitability, portfolio performance, or product strategy.
• Deep knowledge of commercial casualty coverages, pricing, risk selection, and market dynamics.
• Strong analytical and financial acumen with ability to translate portfolio insights into action.

Responsibilities

• Establish underwriting appetite, guidelines, authority structures, and risk selection strategies for casualty lines.
• Lead portfolio management focused on profitability, growth, and long-term performance.
• Partner with underwriting leadership to develop and execute enterprise strategies.
• Monitor portfolio results, trends, risks, and market conditions to inform decisions.
• Develop tools and frameworks to enhance consistency and pricing effectiveness.
• Collaborate with actuarial, product, claims, risk management, and field underwriting leaders.
