Job summary

WJBK FOX 2 Detroit seeks an experienced Director of Engineering to lead the station’s Engineering Department. This role oversees the maintenance, reliability, security, and strategic development of broadcast, production, transmission, and digital platforms.

You will provide leadership to the engineering team, collaborate with IT and station leadership on technology initiatives, and ensure FCC compliance and safety standards across facilities.

Qualifications

• Experience in television broadcast engineering or related fields.
• Experience leading technical teams and managing complex systems.
• Strong troubleshooting, project management, organizational and communication skills.
• Knowledge of broadcast, production, networking, and media workflows.

Responsibilities

• Lead and supervise the Engineering Department with coaching and performance management.
• Ensure reliable operation and maintenance of all technical systems across broadcast, production, transmission, newsroom and facilities.
• Oversee budget planning, procurement, and capital projects; report to VP of Engineering/Operations.
• Collaborate with IT on cybersecurity, standards, and infrastructure.
• Maintain emergency preparedness, including backup power, disaster recovery, and testing.
• Ensure FCC compliance, EAS, ATSC standards, and safety compliance.
