Job summary

WCIA 3 seeks a Chief Engineer to oversee the Engineering Department, maintaining broadcast technology and equipment while ensuring FCC and other regulatory compliance. You will plan staffing, training, and performance evaluations, and direct capital projects across local and remote transmitter sites.

The role requires extensive experience in digital electronics within a TV broadcasting setting, with strong leadership, mentoring, and project management skills.

Qualifications

• Technical degree in Digital Electronics, Broadcasting, or related field, or equivalent.
• Fluency in English; excellent oral and written communication.
• Proficiency with computers and office equipment.
• Valid driver’s license with acceptable record.
• Minimum five years of digital electronics experience in TV broadcasting; at least three in leadership.
• Experience guiding, directing and motivating subordinates with performance standards.
• Ability to set long-range objectives and actions to achieve them.
• Experience coaching and mentoring others to improve skills.
• Strong PC/MS Office experience; familiarity with production setups and A/V routing.
• Experience with broadcast equipment incl. transmitters, microwave, fiber, and IT systems.

Responsibilities

• Manages all aspects of the Engineering Department.
• Plans and manages staffing, training, and performance evaluations.
• Makes hiring, evaluation, promotion and termination decisions.
• Maintains all broadcast technology and equipment for the station.
• Ensures FCC compliance and other regulations.
• Develops and implements new technologies and infrastructure.
• Manages IT staff and systems.
• Assigns projects to staff and monitors deadlines.
• Oversees capital projects within budget; manages multiple sites.
• Maintains local and remote transmitter sites and connectivity.
