Job summary

TEAM Group in Taylor, Michigan is seeking an experienced Head Mechanic to lead in-shop maintenance for a growing U.S. fleet. You will diagnose, repair, and maintain diesel trucks and vacuum/hydrovac equipment, while directing shop staff and coordinating scheduled maintenance.

The role requires 7+ years in heavy-duty diesel maintenance, strong problem-solving, and the ability to work independently with limited supervision. CDL A/B preferred; tools provided by you are welcome.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of heavy-duty diesel or fleet maintenance experience preferred.
• Lead Mechanic / Shop Foreman / Fleet Supervisor experience preferred.
• Experience maintaining commercial truck fleets.
• Experience with vacuum trucks, hydrovac equipment, or similar specialty equipment preferred.
• Strong knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulics, electrical systems, and air systems.
• Must be self-motivated and able to work independently with limited supervision.
• Must have own tools.
• CDL Class A or B preferred, or willingness to obtain.
• High school diploma or GED.

Responsibilities

• Manage day-to-day operation and organization of the Taylor maintenance shop.
• Perform diagnostics, maintenance, and repairs on diesel trucks and specialty equipment.
• Maintain a growing fleet including vacuum trucks, commercial vehicles, trailers, and related equipment.
• Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems.
• Develop and manage preventative maintenance schedules.
• Prioritize repairs to minimize downtime and maintain fleet availability.
• Coordinate DOT inspections and ensure equipment meets safety requirements.
• Respond to breakdowns and coordinate outside repairs when necessary.
• Maintain accurate service records, work orders, and inspection documentation.
• Manage parts, tools, shop supplies, and inventory.
• Work closely with Operations to plan maintenance around business needs.
• Identify opportunities to improve fleet reliability, maintenance costs, and shop efficiency.
• Provide technical direction to additional mechanics as the operation grows.

As our U.S. operations continue to grow, we are looking for an experienced Head Mechanic to join our team in Taylor, Michigan.

This is a hands-on leadership role for someone who is self-motivated, organized, and capable of taking ownership of the maintenance and reliability of our growing fleet.

Pay

$50.00 - $55.00 per hour, based on experience.

Shift

Monday-Friday, Day Shift – In-Shop Role

Overtime and occasional weekend or emergency breakdown support may be required based on business needs.

Qualifications

• Previous experience as a Lead Mechanic, Shop Foreman, Fleet Supervisor, preferred;
• Experience maintaining commercial truck fleets;
• Experience with vacuum trucks, hydrovac equipment, or similar specialty equipment strongly preferred;
• Strong knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulics, electrical systems, and air systems;
• Strong diagnostic and troubleshooting skills;
• Ability to use diagnostic equipment and read schematics;
• Experience managing preventative maintenance programs;
• Strong organizational and problem-solving skills;
• Must be self-motivated and comfortable working independently with limited supervision;
• Must have own tools;
• CDL Class A or B preferred, or willingness to obtain;
• High school diploma or GED;
• Ability to pass required drug screening and background check.
