Job description

JOB SUMMARY:

**** Pay Range: $20.40 Hourly ****

We are looking to add 2 Full-Time Head Lifeguard positions.

1) Working Sunday - Thursday

2) Working Tuesday - Saturday

Both will require one weekend day and evening work.

Provide day-to-day oversight of the Aquatics Area to ensure high standards of customer service and safety. Provide additional lifeguarding or swim lesson coverage as needed. Assist swimmers and lifeguards with emergencies and customer service to create a welcoming and safe environment for all patrons. This position reports to the Aquatics Manager.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Address customer service questions and concerns to minimize follow-up for the on-duty lifeguard.
  • Coordinate emergency responses with the Aquatics Team and other departments following the Emergency Action Plan.
  • Communicate changes in pool schedules, programs, and policies to staff and patrons.
  • Ensure proper staff rotation and breaks for lifeguards and water safety instructors.
  • Adjust programming and water features based on the pool schedule and patron needs.
  • Maintain first aid supplies and report shortages or equipment issues to the supervisor.
  • Perform maintenance and administrative duties to keep the Aquatics Area clean and safe.
  • Assist with administrative and programming projects.
  • Fill in as a Lifeguard or Water Safety Instructor when necessary.

RELATIONSHIPS:

  • Reports to the Aquatics Manager with guidance from the Aquatics Lead.
  • Interacts with lifeguards, water safety instructors, pool patrons, and program participants.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Required:

  • 18 years or older.
  • 500 hours or more of lifeguarding experience.
  • Current American Red Cross Lifeguard Training Certification or equivalent, including CPR for professional rescuer and first aid.
  • Current American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor Certification or equivalent.
  • Proficient lifeguarding and rescue skills.
  • Ability to lead teams and manage customer service situations.
  • Ability to lead Learn-to-Swim classes and monitor student progress.

Preferred:

  • 1000 hours or more of lifeguarding experience.
  • 500 hours or more of swim instructor experience.
  • American Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor certification.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Must be able to meet the physical demands of a lifeguard and water safety instructor.
  • Must be able to lift a minimum of 50 lbs.
  • Must be able to work in an indoor pool environment – warm, humid, and occasionally loud.

Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS:

Required:

  • 18 years or older.
  • 1 year lifeguarding experience.
  • Current American Red Cross Lifeguard Training Certification or equivalent.
  • Current American Red Cross CPR for the Professional Rescuer Certification or the equivalent.
  • Current American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor Certification or the equivalent.
  • Must have functional lifeguarding and rescue skills to effectively respond to emergency situations.
  • Must be able to lead Learn-to-Swim classes, provide instruction, and monitor class progress.

Preferred:

  • Able to work at all three YWCA aquatics facilities.

  • Must be able to meet the physical demands of a lifeguard.
  • Must be able to lift a minimum of 50 lbs.
  • Must be able to work in indoor pool environment – warm and humid.
