Job summary

Jewish Silicon Valley / Addison-Penzak Jewish Community Center is seeking a Head Lifeguard to lead pool safety, operations, and staff organization under the Aquatics Director. You will engage members, supervise lifeguards, and ensure a welcoming environment that supports aquatic fitness goals.

The role requires ARC Lifeguard and Lifeguard Instructor certifications, at least 2 years of supervisory experience and 2 years lifeguarding, and strong leadership, safety, and emergency response skills

$25.00-$30.00 per hour

Summary

Under the direct supervision of the Aquatics Director, a Head Lifeguard is responsible for Pool Safety, Pool Operations, and Organization of Lifeguards at Jewish Silicon Valley (through its programmatic arm, the Addison-Penzak Jewish Community Center). This position serves as a vital role in engaging members and facilitating a safe and welcoming environment that inspires members to achieve their aquatic fitness goals. A Head Lifeguard is responsible for administration, pool operations, and safety standards of the JSV/APJCC Aquatics programs.

Areas of Responsibility

Member Engagement

• Strong commitment to creating safe and welcoming environment to all members and guests
• Ability to foster strong relationships amongst both members and staff in a professional manner
• Act as a catalyst for members to be engaged at the JSV/APJCC in Aquatics
• Experience working with a diverse range of people at various levels of aquatic fitness

Supervision and Leadership

• Ability to work independently
• Strong supervision and leadership skills
• Provide ongoing leadership and supervision to a large, diverse staff team in the following:
• Ability to hold staff accountable when necessary

Operational Effectiveness

• Assist management with administration needs not limited to:
• Schedule coverage
• Clock in and out approvals
• Summer camp swim coordination
• Safety equipment checks and supplies
• Knowledge of aquatic certification standards and best practices
• Assist the Aquatics Management in the of the daily operations of the aquatics facility
• Maintain a minimum of 15 hours of on deck supervision/lifeguarding during peak season, 15 hours of administrative duties and 10 hours of shift coverage per week.
• Knowledge of optimal swimming pool water chemistry, temperature, and cleanliness standards
• Knowledge of pump room operations and protocols
• Maintains and organizes pool deck cleanliness /equipment
• Lead lifeguard monthly in-service training as well as ongoing skill building drills, and quick checks.
• Ability to respond appropriately in an emergency situation
• Ability to recognize and demonstrate safe use of aquatic mechanical equipment
• Enforce compliance with all safety regulations among staff and patrons, working to eliminate potential hazards.
• Ability to read, understand, follow, and enforce safety procedures

Experience

• Minimum of 2 years of supervisory experience as well as 2 years lifeguarding.

Working Conditions

• Work involves moderate exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures
• Ability to work safely both in and out of pool
• Ability to lift and carry 45 lbs.
• Ability to stand, sit, lift, bend, twist
• Work in the vicinity of children and older adults
