Job summary

The City of Lenexa is seeking a Head Lifeguard to manage daily operations at the Lenexa Rec Center, including supervising lifeguards, enforcing safety protocols, and keeping maintenance checks and records up to date.

You will play a key role in training staff, coordinating scheduling, and ensuring exceptional customer service for visitors this summer season.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 17 years old and have 2 years lifeguard experience including swim lesson instruction.
• Current American Red Cross Lifeguard and First Aid/ CPR/ AED certifications required.
• Valid driver's license and satisfactory credit history required.

Job description

The City of Lenexa is currently accepting applications for summer Head Lifeguards. This role is a great opportunity to gain customer service and teamwork skills while serving the community at one of our facilities:

• Flat Rock Creek: 13120 W. 103rd St.
• Sar-Ko-Par Aquatic Center: 8801 Greenway Ln.

Schedule:

This position requires weekday, weekend, and holiday availability. Applicants will provide their availability (specific days and hours) during the application process, which will be reviewed as part of the hiring decision.

Head Lifeguards are required to work an average of 25-35 hours per week from May 15th - August 13th. Additionally, Head Lifeguards who reside within three hours of Lenexa during the modified season (August 14-September 6) are required to work a minimum of one shift during that period.

Position Summary:

The Head Lifeguard oversees the daily operation of the Lenexa Rec Center. This role is responsible for supervising and training lifeguards, ensuring safety protocols are followed, conducting maintenance checks, and maintaining accurate records.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Must be at least 17 years old with 2 years of lifeguard experience, including swim lesson instruction.
• Must have current American Red Cross Lifeguard and First Aid/CPR/AED certifications.
• Valid driver's license and satisfactory credit history required.

Hiring Timeline:

Applications are currently being accepted. Interviews will be held December through February, with final hiring decisions made no later than March.

Starting rate of pay is $16.50 per hour with annual raises.

Offers of employment are contingent upon successfully passing a drug screen. A background check is required for applicants aged 18 and older.
