Job summary

The Keystone Central School District is seeking an athletics/coaching leader at Central Mountain High School to guide and develop student-athletes. The role focuses on skill development, game strategy, and program management while upholding high standards of integrity and sportsmanship.

You will work with athletes, parents, and staff to ensure academic and athletic excellence, supervise coaches and volunteers, and promote positive public relations within the community.

Qualifications

• Previous head coaching experience preferred.
• Experience coaching in the assigned sport is desired.

Qualifications

• Proper working knowledge of rules and regulations established by the Keystone Central School District, Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association (PIAA), and Pennsylvania Heartland Athletic Conference (PHAC).
• Must be willing to obtain PA Criminal Background Check, Child Abuse History, Federal Criminal History, Arrest Conviction Report and Certification Form, Mandated Reporter Training, Sexual Abuse Misconduct, Concussion Certification, Sudden Cardiac Arrest Form.
• Must be willing to obtain PA Coaching Certifications: Fundamentals of Coaching, First Aid, Health, and Safety for Coaches.

Reports To

Central Mountain Coaches report to the Central Mountain High School Athletic Director and Supervisor of Athletics. Bucktail Coaches report to the Bucktail Area High School Athletic Director and Bucktail Area Principal.

Job Goals

• To instruct student athletes in the fundamental skills, strategies, and training necessary for them to realize both individual and team success.
• To provide instruction that leads athletes to the formulation of moral values, academic achievement, strong work ethic, responsibility, teamwork, sportsmanship, self-discipline, leadership, self-confidence, and personal growth.
• Provide supervision of student-athletes, assistant coaches, and volunteer coaches affiliated with the program.
• Serve as a positive role model to the student athletes and represent the Keystone Central School district in a well-respected manner.
• Continuously upgrade knowledge and skills through coaching clinics, observations, and consultation.

Coaching Performance Responsibilities

• Thorough knowledge of and implementation of all athletic policies approved by the KCSD School Board of Education.
• Thorough knowledge of and implementation of rules and regulations established by PIAA and PHAC.
• Understanding proper administrative chain of command and referring all student/parent requests or grievances through the proper channels.
• Establish clear goals and direction for the team, coaches, and players.
• Develop procedures to keep parents and players informed.
• Establish clear policies with parents and players to address issues and/or concerns.
• Monitor student athletes' academic performance and maintain high academic expectations.
• Maintain discipline and work to increase morale and cooperation within the school sports program.
• Effectively engage the community and develop positive public relations.
• Regularly organize and attend coach, player, parent, and booster club meetings.
• Assist in the selection of assistant coaches.
• Demonstrate character traits of trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, fairness, caring, and citizenship.
• Provide training rules and any other regulations of the sport to each participant.
• Determine discipline and delineate procedures concerning due process when enforcing discipline and contacting parents.
• Foster a desire to win, sportsmanship, personal pride, and pride for the school and community.
• Assess players' skills and monitor players during practice and competitions.
• Supervise all practices, games, and team trips.
• Maintain a record of team statistics and requirements for lettering and report to the Athletic Department at season end.
• Select and direct student managers, assistants, and statisticians.
• Frequently update the athletic director during the season about any issues, concerns, highlights, or events.
• Provide detail-oriented practice plans for scheduled practice sessions.
• Inform players and parents of NCAA rules, academic requirements, and deadlines for college athletics participation.
• Understand policies concerning injuries, medical attention, and emergencies.
• Communicate effectively with athletic trainers.
• Organize, plan, and help manage the season-end awards ceremony or team banquet.
• Perform other duties consistent with the nature of the position that may be requested by the Athletic Director or Supervisor of Athletics.

Equipment and Facilities Responsibilities

• Maintain accurate documentation for the team and program.
• Collect cost of any equipment lost or not returned and submit it to the athletic department.
• Arrange for issuing and storing equipment.
• Recommend budgetary items to the athletic department for next year.
• Monitor equipment rooms and coaches’ offices and authorize authorized personnel entry.
• Permit athletes to be only in authorized areas of the building at appropriate times.
• Examine locker rooms before and after practices and games, checking on general cleanliness.
• Be responsible for cleanliness and maintenance of specific sport equipment.
• Secure all doors, lights, windows, and locks before leaving when custodians are not on duty.
• Instill in each player respect for equipment and school property, its care and proper use.
