Job summary

Lanoha Nurseries, Inc. in Omaha, NE, is expanding its annual/perennial/shrub production team. We seek a skilled grower to monitor fertilization, manage irrigation, apply PGRs, and ensure high-quality stock through testing and calibration.

Requires 2–4 year degree in horticulture and 3–5 years related experience, strong safety knowledge, and ability to work outdoors in varying temperatures; bilingual a plus but not required.

Qualifications

• 2-4 year degree in Horticulture or related field; 3-5 years of related work experience or equivalent combination.
• Must understand use of injectors, boom and irrigation systems.
• Confident in PGRs; understand pH and EC and related research.
• Accurately determine proper rate and frequency of PGR applications.
• Knowledge of safe handling and application of fertilizers, herbicides, pesticides, fungicides and plant growth regulators.
• Accurate scouting and identification of insects, diseases, and growth-related problems.
• Able to judge watering needs; operate sprinkler booms and overheads.
• Able to test for pH and EC; analyze results and act.
• Understands plant physiology, chemistry and nutrient uptake.
• Must pass Nebraska Chemical Applicators License test.
• Bi-lingual, Spanish a plus but not required.
• Ability to work outside daily in varying temperatures and high moisture environments.
• May be exposed to temperature extremes; stand for long periods; lift 50 lbs.

Responsibilities

• Establish priorities, work independently, and accomplish objectives with minimal supervision.
• Monitor fertilization levels weekly; calibrate and troubleshoot injectors.
• Become an expert in greenhouse operations and equipment like exhaust fans, vents, and heaters.
• Maintain environmental conditions for each crop; ensure greenhouse controllers operate properly.
• Be part of spray rotations; mix and apply pesticides with PPE as required.
• Responsible for all spray applications in assigned areas.
• Follow sanitary procedures after disease or crop failure concerns.
• Keep work areas clean and safe.
• Be willing to work in any production area; share knowledge and train laborers.
• Contribute ideas to reduce costs and improve efficiency; design beneficial experiments.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
