Job summary

Swiss Re Corporate Solutions seeks a Head of E&C Wholesale LatAm in Miami to lead strategy, manage profitability, and shape underwriting in Latin America. You will drive growth by aligning with the Market Unit Head for IAMEA and guiding a team of underwriters across the region.

You will influence client and broker relationships, champion technical excellence, and ensure rigorous risk governance while pursuing innovative solutions for evolving client needs in the engineering and construction

Qualifications

• Engineering degree required with affinity to E&C industries.
• Minimum 5 years as a professional engineer, including managerial roles and site supervision.
• Minimum 10 years engineering underwriting experience with an insurer or reinsurer.
• Proven track record in leading diverse teams.

Responsibilities

• Define vision and strategy for E&C LatAm Wholesale portfolio to drive growth.
• Own P&L for the LatAm portfolio with risk appetite alignment.
• Lead technical excellence and stay ahead of market trends for E&C in LatAm.
• Build strategic relationships with clients and brokers and represent Swiss Re at high levels.
• Ensure compliance with underwriting standards and risk management frameworks.
• Drive development of new solutions for evolving client needs.

About the Role

As the Head E&C Wholesale LatAm, you'll lead our vision and strategy to drive profitable growth across the Latin America. Working collaboratively with the Market Unit Head for IAMEA (Ibero-America, Middle-East and Africa), you'll shape our underwriting approach in this region while ensuring alignment with broader business objectives.

Key Responsibilities

• Strategic Leadership - Define the vision and strategy for the E&C LatAm Wholesale Portfolio, driving profitable growth and performance
• Portfolio Management - Take accountability for the Profit & Loss of the E&C LatAm Wholesale portfolio, applying risk selection as global risk appetite and ensuring profitable growth
• Technical Excellence - Serve as point of reference on technical issues and stay ahead of emerging technologies and market trends in your sub-region for E&C purposes
• Relationship Building - Cultivate strategic relationships with key clients and brokers, representing Swiss Re Corporate Solutions at the highest levels for respective Market Units
• Risk Governance - Ensure full compliance with applicable underwriting standards and risk management frameworks
• Innovation - Drive the development of new solutions to address evolving client needs in the engineering and construction sectors

About the Team

You’ll be part of an international team with diverse technical and scientific backgrounds across the global and shall lead a team of 3 underwriters located in Mexico City. You’ll work closely with colleagues across the global Engineering & Construction and Renewable Energy community. Our team combines excellent technical expertise with strong team spirit, always focused on delivering the best solutions for our clients. The collaborative environment encourages innovation and knowledge sharing across borders.

About You

You’re an experienced engineering professional who has successfully transitioned into insurance leadership, combining deep technical knowledge with commercial acumen. You thrive in collaborative environments while being decisive when needed. Your strategic vision is matched by your ability to execute and deliver results, and you’re passionate about developing talent and fostering an inclusive team culture.

We are looking for candidates who bring:

• University degree in an engineering discipline (civil, mechanical, chemical or process engineering) or comparable education with strong affinity to the engineering & construction industry
• Minimum of 5 years of experience as a professional engineer, including managerial roles and site experience with construction/erection supervision
• Minimum of 10 years engineering underwriting experience with a primary insurance or reinsurance company
• Proven track record in leading and managing teams with diverse backgrounds

• Broad network with corporate clients and brokers in Latin America
• Experience in change management with a visionary mindset
• Excellent negotiation and communication skills across all organizational levels
• Demonstrated commitment to fostering diversity and talent development

The estimated base salary range for this position is $160,000 to $240,000. The specific salary offered for this, or any given role, will take into account many factors including but not limited to job location, scope of role, qualifications, complexity/specialization/scarcity of talent, experience, education, and employer budget. At Swiss Re, we take a "total compensation approach" when making compensation decisions. This means that we consider all components of compensation in their totality (such as base pay, short- and long-term incentives, and benefits offered), in setting individual compensation.

Our company has a hybrid work model where the expectation is that you will be in the office at least three days per week.
