Job summary

TheatreWorks in the Peninsula invites applications for a Lead Draper to oversee patterning, cutting and supervise construction, ensuring designs meet the designer's vision within budget and schedule.

This full-time, hourly, non-exempt position reports to the Costume Director, starts January 2027, and requires leadership of shop staff, collaboration with designers, and a focus on fit, safety and quality across a range of costumes for performances.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 5 years of draping and patterning experience at a professional theatre.
• College degree or technical certificate in theatre costume or clothing construction.
• Ability to manage multiple projects, meet deadlines and work under pressure.

Responsibilities

• Oversee construction, alteration and modification of costumes to meet production needs on schedule and budget.
• Interpret costume renderings with Costume Director and Designer and discuss materials.
• Create original patterns using draping and flat-patterning; organize reusable patterns.
• Supervise First Hand/Asst. Cutter and overhire staff while constructing complex costumes.
• Fit costumes on actors with attention to body-image and performer comfort.
• Ensure safe operation of all costume shop machines and train staff in safety.
• Attend run-throughs, dress rehearsals and meetings as required.
