Job summary

Hims & Hers is seeking a Head Compounding Pharmacist in Ohio to lead the compounding production team and drive development of new compounded treatments. You will ensure quality, safety, and regulatory compliance across all compounding activities.

You will supervise staff, coordinate with R&D for formulation scale-up, and maintain adherence to USP guidelines and HIPAA regulations in a fast-paced lab environment.

Qualifications

  • Active Pharmacist license in the state of Ohio.
  • Experience with compounding equipment and processes.
  • Knowledge of USP 795, 800, and related USP chapters.
  • Familiar with HIPAA/privacy regulations and patient confidentiality.
  • Strong leadership and team supervision capabilities.
  • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds and stand for long periods.

About the Role:

Reporting to the Director of Compounding Production, the Head Compounding Pharmacist will be responsible for the strategic development and growth of compounding capabilities, as well as acting as a subject matter expert in the development of new compounded treatments. You will strive to maximize quality and patient safety while dispensing medication in accordance with federal and state pharmacy regulations.

You Will:
  • Directly supervise all compounding personnel.
  • Perform and accurately document compounding procedures, quality assurance/quality control checks, and dispensing of compounded preparations.
  • Train and evaluate compounding personnel.
  • Review and approve materials for use in compounding.
  • Oversee the calibration, maintenance, and use of equipment to compound prescription orders and monitor the compounding environment in conjunction with the maintenance team.
  • Work closely with R and D teams on the development and scale-up of new compounded formulations.
  • Follow all safety, USP, BOP, and internal guidelines for the preparation of compounded medications.
  • Maintain a safety-first mindset and ensure precautions are taken in all compounding activities within the lab, including when working with hazardous chemicals in accordance with USP and applicable laws.
  • When required, wear all personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Perform pharmacist related activities such as patient consultation and error documentation.
  • Coordinate with the Pharmacist-in-charge (PIC) for personnel, compliance and regulatory matters.
  • Willingness to complete external training as required
  • Develop and evaluate standard operating procedures for the compounding lab and formulations.
You Have:
  • Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) or Bachelor's degree in Pharmacy from an accredited institution.
  • Active Pharmacist license in the state of Ohio.
  • Must have familiarity and experience with all necessary pharmacy and compounding equipment.
  • Must have knowledge of all principles, theories and laws, policies and procedures that pertain to compounding- specifically USP 795, 800, and other USP general chapters, and best compounding practices.
  • Proficiency in Windows based computer systems.
  • Must be able to undergo respirator fit testing - Full beards or a lot of facial hair may prevent a proper seal for the respirator
  • Must be a knowledgeable and empathetic leader to in-person pharmacist and technician teams
  • Must be able to lift at least 25 pounds with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Must be able to stand for long periods of time.
  • Pharmacists will work in a variety of positions and locations such as sitting, standing, squatting, kneeling, reaching, and walking; for prolonged periods of time.
  • Must be able to wear required compounding safety equipment for long periods of time when required.
  • Maintain all security and privacy rules regarding the use and handling of protected health information (PHI) in compliance with federal and state HIPAA regulations.
  • Follow all state and pharmacy regulations and rules as designated by the required State Board of Pharmacy and the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
  • Maintain a clean and sanitary work environment as mandated by the FDA's rules and regulations.
