Job summary

Edgeworks in the United States is seeking a Head Coach & Team Manager to mentor Team Coaches and lead the Edgeworks athletes toward national competition goals.

You will coordinate administrative support across locations, schedule practices and events, and align athletes, coaches, and resources during the 16-week Nationals prep window. Occasional travel to external sites is required to maintain program standards.

Qualifications

  • Competitive youth climbing coaching experience.
  • Experience with hiring, onboarding, training, and scheduling coaches.
  • Advanced indoor rock climbing knowledge and experience.
  • Lead belay certified.
  • USAC Level 2 Certified Coach or ability to acquire within 90 days.

General Summary

Team Edgeworks strives to inspire and challenge youth athletes to compete in a fun and supportive environment. Under mentorship of USAC certified coaching staff, our athletes learn how to develop a healthy work ethic, to compete at the highest levels, and to be lifelong climbers.

The Head Coach & Team Manager is primarily responsible for mentoring Team Coaches and working as a team to coach Team Edgeworks athletes. The Head Coach & Team Manager also serves as a senior operational and strategic leader across all program locations, providing oversight beyond the responsibilities of individual location Head Coaches.

This role is responsible for coordinating administrative support for Team practices, memberships, and other events across all locations, ensuring consistency, readiness, and successful execution. The Head Coach & Team Manager leads cross-location collaboration by attending internal and external practices during the 16-week preparation period leading up to Nationals, aligning athletes, coaches, and resources to maximize performance.

As such, this position requires occasional travel to other Edgeworks locations and off-site practice locations to provide leadership, maintain program standards, and support seamless operations for athletes qualified at the Regional, Divisional, and National level.

Reporting to the Director of Routesetting & Team, the Head Coach & Team Manager partners with the Operations Manager to guarantee an outstanding experience for the climbing team and achieve optimal results at competitions.

Roles And Responsibilities

Including, but not limited to:

  • Assisting the Head Coaches and Director of Routesetting & Team with administrative support via Redpoint HQ across all locations.
  • Attending all external practices during the 16-week preparation period leading up to Nationals.
  • Attending weekly gym meetings and monthly all-department meetings
  • Demonstrating an inclusive coaching philosophy focused on developing confidence, climbing ability, and growth both on and off the walls.
  • Working in conjunction with the Director of Routesetting & Team to create and execute developmentally-appropriate training curriculums for Team athletes at all levels, ensuring athlete safety is at the forefront.
  • Designing and implementing seasonal training plans, goals, and follow-up for the team as a whole as well as for individual athletes as needed.
  • Fostering camaraderie among Team Coaches and a culture of direct communication and respect.
  • Working with the Operations Manager to balance the needs of the Team with the needs of the rest of the community.
  • Serving as the key contact for Team Edgeworks athletes and parents; develop and maintain relationships with Team families.
  • Assisting with ongoing communication with team members and parents regarding schedule, expectations, and performance.
  • Hiring, training, and managing Team Edgeworks Coaches.
  • Scheduling Team Edgeworks coaching staff to optimize practice needs.
  • Attending practices and competitions.
  • Coaching at all Championship level events
  • Coaching at a majority of Qualifying Events
  • Assisting with organizing Team events (fundraisers, social events, mock comps, etc).
  • Collaborating with other Edgeworks locations’ Head Coaches on programming, staffing, & events.
  • Coordinating with the Director of Team to schedule Team Edgeworks practices with non-Edgeworks teams and practices held at other gyms.
  • Collaborating with leadership to create and/or monitor financial forecasting for Team budgeting and payroll.
  • Ensuring departmental equipment is being inspected in a timely manner.
  • Acting as an Edgeworks ambassador while at offsite climbing competitions.
Must-haves
QUALIFICATION AND SKILLS:
  • Competitive youth climbing coaching experience.
  • Experienced and proven team contributor.

  • Lead belay certified
  • Must demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills and be customer-service oriented.
  • Must be willing to travel out of state for championship level competitions.
  • Computer literacy in google suite products, internet and email.
  • Must be USAC Level 2 Certified Coach or have the ability to acquire certification within 90 days.
Nice-to-haves
  • Competition climbing experience.
  • Routesetting experience.
  • Computer literacy with Redpoint HQ or other climbing gym software.
  • Comprehensive understanding of USAC rules and competition schedule.
Employment Status
  • Full-Time Hourly (Hours will include working competitions on the weekends and/or working outside regular hours)
