This full-time, 12-monthadministrative position provides leadership for all aspects of theUniversity's NCAA Division III men's ice hockey program, includingstudent-athlete development, competitive success, recruitment,program administration, and strategic planning. The Head Coach serves as an educator, mentor, and leader whodevelops a culture of accountability, belonging, teamwork,competitive excellence, and continuous improvement. The successfulcandidate will provide strategic leadership for all aspects of theprogram while developing student-athletes, hiring, supervising,mentoring, and evaluating assistant coaches, collaborating withcolleagues across the University, responsibly stewarding programresources, and strengthening relationships with alumni, supporters,and external partners in support of the long-term success ofWentworth Men's Ice Hockey.

Scope of Responsibility

Program Leadership & Administration

• The Head Coach provides strategic leadership and administrativeoversight for all aspects of the NCAA Division III men's ice hockeyprogram, establishing competitive goals, setting programexpectations, and cultivating a positive, accountable, andstudent-centered team culture.
• The Head Coach oversees the day-to-day operations of theprogram, including:
  • planning and conducting practices;
  • preparing for competition;
  • developing game strategy;
  • scheduling contests;
  • coordinating team travel;
  • overseeing equipment management; and
  • evaluating program performance.
• The Head Coach manages the program budget, supports fundraisingand alumni engagement initiatives, and fulfills all fiscal andadministrative responsibilities in a timely and responsiblemanner.
• The Head Coach is responsible for recruiting, supervising, andmentoring a part-time assistant coaching staff by providing ongoingmentorship, regular feedback, and opportunities for professionaldevelopment.
• Because Wentworth utilizes external athletic facilities for theMen’s Ice Hockey Program, the Head Coach develops and maintainsproductive relationships with FMC Ice Sports at the Allied VeteransRink in Everett and other facility partners to ensure effectivescheduling and operations.

Recruitment & Enrollment

• Recruitment at Wentworth is viewed as the foundational step oflong-term student retention and success. The Head Men’s Ice HockeyCoach provides strategic leadership for recruiting and rostermanagement that reflects the values of Wentworth Institute ofTechnology and the Wentworth Athletics Department.
• Working collaboratively with Enrollment Management andAthletics and Student Affairs leadership, the Head Coach developsand executes an annual recruiting strategy that supportsinstitutional and program enrollment goals while identifyingstudent-athletes who will thrive academically, socially, andcompetitively at Wentworth.
• The Head Coach is expected to cultivate relationships withprospects and their families, clearly articulating the unique valueof a Wentworth education and the University’s commitment to studentsuccess and professional development.

Student-Athlete Development

• Beyond competition, the Head Coach is committed to the holisticdevelopment of student-athletes by promoting academic success,leadership development, personal well-being, and competitiveexcellence. To achieve this, the Head Coach actively partners withcross-institutional colleagues to support student well-being,academic achievement, leadership development, personalaccountability, and overall student success.
• Encourages student-athletes to engage fully in the academic,leadership, and co-curricular opportunities available through theUniversity.

Departmental & Institutional Engagement

• Alongside primary coaching duties, full-time head coaches areassigned a secondary duty/administrative responsibility which arereviewed and assigned annually based on the candidate’squalifications, seasonal responsibilities, and departmentneeds.
• Additionally, full-time head coaches support AthleticsDepartment operations through game management responsibilities,conference and NCAA championship administration, and departmentalsignature events.
• Serves as an active member of the Division of Student Affairsand the Athletics Department by contributing to divisional anddepartmental planning, committee work, collaborative initiatives,and a shared commitment to student-athlete success.
• Builds and maintains collaborative relationships with faculty,staff, and departments across the University to support studentsuccess and advance departmental, divisional, and institutionalpriorities.
• Represents Wentworth Athletics and the University atinstitutional, conference, alumni, community, and professionalevents, serving as a positive ambassador for the athleticsdepartment and the University.

Compliance & Professional Responsibilities

• Maintains required certifications, completes mandatoryinstitutional training, and fulfills administrativeresponsibilities in a timely manner.
• Ensures compliance with NCAA Division III legislation,Conference of New England policies, University policies, and allapplicable federal and state regulations.

• Bachelor's degree required.
• Minimum of five years of demonstrated success coaching icehockey, including progressive leadership responsibilities.
• Demonstrated ability to recruit and retain academicallyqualified student-athletes.
• Valid driver’s license.
• Demonstrated strong communication skills and experiencebuilding inclusive team environments.

Preferred Qualifications

• Master’s degree.
• Collegiate coaching experience, preferably at the NCAAlevel.
• Five to seven years of collegiate coaching experience withprevious head coaching or significant assistant coaching leadershipresponsibilities.

The job grade for this position is Grade 7.

The expected salary for this position is between $71,000.00 -$85,000.00 which reflects what we reasonably expect to pay for thisrole.
