Job summary

Christopher Newport University in Newport News, VA seeks a Head Sailing Coach to lead the intercollegiate sailing program, guide student‑athlete development, manage budget and facilities, and serve as ambassador to alumni and the sailing community.

You will direct coaching across Co‑Ed and Women’s teams, plan schedules, oversee recruitment in coordination with Admissions, and partner with the Sailing Foundation for program support.

Qualifications

• Significant, successful experience coaching competitive sailing.
• Demonstrated success recruiting student-athletes.
• Experience managing or supervising coaches or program staff.

Responsibilities

• Direct the planning, organization, instruction and day‑to‑day coaching of the sailing team for Co‑Ed and Women’s divisions.
• Plan competition schedules, analyze opponents, design race strategies, and evaluate performance with data.
• Oversee training and development, in partnership with conditioning and sports medicine.
• Manage program budget, facilities, travel, and event hosting.
