Job Description

POSITION PURPOSE: The position of Head Coach is responsible for assuring that all assistants (contracted or volunteer), as well as himself/herself, know the rules of the Washington Interscholastic Athletic Association (WIAA), KINGCO Conference and the Bellevue School District policies.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES (Representative Sample; position assignments may vary)

• Has responsibility and leadership for overall supervision of his/her program at all levels
• Organizes his/her program so that it is consistent with district and high school philosophy, goals and objectives
• Has main responsibility for striving to build good sportsmanship and developing good public relations in the school and community
• Follows all rules, policies and procedures of the League, District, and school
• Prepares public information releases regarding sport
• Complies with WIAA coaching clock hour program
• Keeps abreast of new knowledge, ideas and techniques relating to sport
• Assists Athletic Director in coordination of scheduling events for sport (non‑league contests and tournaments)
• Drafts and submits a budget for sport and follows rules for incurring and tracking expenditures and revenues
• Responsible for practice sessions within the time(s) agreed upon by head coach and Athletic Director; includes supervision of locker room
• Maintains records for Athletic Director and/or principal
• Attends all meetings (district and league) pertaining to sport
• General health, welfare and safety of athletes
• Identifies safety procedures and relays them to assistants, athletes and parents
• Administers student interest survey/evaluation at season’s conclusion and reports results to Athletic Director
• Writes annual report evaluating program and recommending improvements
• Conducts and files Assistant Coach’s Evaluation
• Assigns duties to assistant coaches (volunteer and contracted)
• Ensures all rules, procedures and policies followed
• Upholds general upkeep, protection, distribution, collection and inventory of all equipment
• Guarantees appropriate use of school facilities and property
• Organizes, directs and supervises practice sessions and dressing room facilities at all times of use
• Rides bus to/from all events and follows travel rules

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS

• Reports to Athletic Director

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Must be at least 19 years of age
• Current first aid and CPR card (proof must be provided prior to job offer)

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Positions in this class typically require stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, finger dexterity, grasping, talking, hearing, seeing, repetitive motions. Medium work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, up to 20 pounds frequently, up to 10 pounds constantly. May work outdoors in inclement weather. Requires physical mobility through school campus including stairs.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

2025-26 Athletic Salary Schedule $3,467 for the season. Position not eligible for benefits.
