Job summary

North Country Brewing Co is seeking a Head Brewer to lead all brewery operations at our Slippery Rock, PA facility. The role blends hands-on brewing with leadership of the team, production scheduling, inventory, labor, and budget, while upholding safety and continuous improvement standards.

The Head Brewer will oversee yeast management, packaging into kegs, cans and bottles, and ensure accurate production records.

Responsibilities

• Provide end‑to‑end leadership of all brewery operations including brewing all recipes to specification and complete accurate production records.
• Lead hands‑on brewing, centrifuging or DE filtration, yeast management and propagation, soda production, cleaning, sanitation, and packaging into kegs, cans, and bottles.
• Manage yeast, including proper handling and propagation, and support soda production.
• Receive deliveries, maintain inventory records, and help manage production in brewery systems. Help with deliveries to our locations and clean draft lines.
• Operate a forklift and brewery equipment safely and responsibly.
• Clean and sanitize vessels, equipment, and brewery work areas using proper chemical‑handling practices.
• Coach Assistant Brewers and reinforce consistent, efficient brewery practices.
• Maintain standard for quality, safety, cleanliness, and OSHA compliance.
• Share your beer and brewing knowledge with restaurant guests and represent our beer events.

As Head Brewer you’ll lead every aspect of brewery operations to consistently produce the high-quality, beverages our guests know and love. This role blends hands‑on brewing and packaging expertise with leadership of the team, production schedule, inventory, labor, and budget, while building a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement.

• The Craft: Lead and support every stage of production from brewing and yeast management to centrifuging or DE filtration, soda production, and packaging finished beer in kegs, cans, and bottles.
• The Leadership: Lead, coach, schedule, and develop the Lead Brewer and Assistant Brewers while creating a culture of accountability, teamwork, safety, and continuous improvement.
• The Quality: Own high standard across every beverage, piece of equipment, and area of the facility through strong sensory evaluation, quality control, sanitation, and disciplined production practices.
• The Operations: Deliver the production schedule through accurate forecasting, procurement, inventory management, labor planning, budget oversight, and operational excellence in partnership with the brewery manager.
• The Standards: Maintain complete production and inventory documentation while ensuring the brewery, equipment, and facility remain clean, organized, sanitized, and ready for production.
• The Safety: Lead strict compliance with safety, food safety, chemical‑handling, regulatory, and OSHA requirements while maintaining a drug‑ and alcohol‑free workplace. Authorized quality tastings are conducted only under established company protocols.

Note that we do have 3 brewhouses and you will primarily be at the one where we do about 2000bbl per year. We have two assistant brewers and production manager in house that you will work with, at this location. There will be times we will need you to fill in at our other brewhouses.
