Responsibilities

  • Oversees all operations of the Boys Varsity Basketball program, collaborating with JV/Freshman coaches.
  • Ensures compliance with Branson and league policies for athletic activities.
  • Plans and organizes practices and game schedules with the Athletic Department.
  • Maintains a safe environment for student athletes at all times.
  • Ensures proper behavior and supervision at home and away games.
  • Enforces training rules and school/class requirements for athletes.
  • Represents Branson professionally in communities and with officials.
  • Maintains equipment storage, inventory, and maintenance, and manages expenditures with prior approval.
  • Keeps student records and passes required trainings and certifications.

Position Description

The Head Varsity Boys Basketball Coach is responsible for developing a high school varsity basketball program dedicated to building a positive team culture, developing student athletes’ skills and confidence, and promoting teamwork, sportsmanship, and accountability. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a deep understanding of basketball as well as strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills. This position requires travel and work on weekends and evenings.

Must have the ability to interact with students, parents, and staff, sometimes under pressure, while remaining flexible, proactive, resourceful and efficient. Responsibilities

  • Oversees all operations of the Boys Varsity Basketball program, and collaborates with the JV and Freshman coaches regarding player development and practice/game strategies.

  • Ensures that Branson and League policies, rules and regulations regarding the conduct of athletic activities and athletes are followed.

  • Works with the Athletic Department to plan and organize practices and games schedules.

  • Maintains a safe environment for student athletes at all times.

  • Helps to ensure regular supervision of student athletes at home and away games and ensures appropriate behavior.

  • Ensures that student athletes adhere to training rules, class and grade requirements, and rules of behavior on the court, in conditioning, and in the locker room.

  • Interacts thoughtfully and courteously with students, staff, parents, and officials. Resolves all conflicts in a professional manner.

  • Professionally represents Branson in all interactions with the community at large.

  • Ensures the proper cleaning, storage, and maintenance of all athletic equipment and uniforms.

  • Makes recommendations regarding the purchase of uniforms, equipment, and supplies. Also manages inventory.

  • Maintains necessary records and completes Paycom timecard within the specified timeframes and manner.

  • Maintains appropriate certifications and training hours as required.

  • Attends work regularly and is punctual to all practices and games.

  • Obtain advance approval from the Athletic Director for all team-related expenditures.

  • Manages other duties as assigned.


Position Requirements


  • Minimum of Bachelor's degree from an accredited university, preferred.

  • Three-five years of experience as a basketball coach.

  • CPR Certified through American Red Cross.

  • Must have and maintain a valid driver's license and pass Branson's required driving/background clearance to transport students.

  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.

  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize.

  • Experience working and communicating with diverse groups of people.

  • Ability to act professionally and keep students' records confidential.

  • Ability to make decisions and handle conflicts.

  • Problem-solving skills and creativity.


Physical Requirements


  • Heavy work. Exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

  • Must be able to assist with athletes of various weights and heights.

  • Must be able to stand for long periods of time, have good mobility skills and be able to walk long distances.

  • Must be able to carry training kit and coolers for long distances.

  • Use strength to lift items, raising objects from lower to a higher position or moving objects horizontally from position-to-position.

  • Must be able to bend at hips and knees.

  • Must work in noisy and crowded environments.
