Rush County Schools is seeking a head coach for athletics/activities at Rushville Consolidated High School to lead and supervise a complete sports program. The role emphasizes instruction, safety, policy adherence, and program development.

Qualifications

• Has the ability to organize and supervise a complete sports program.
• Has previous successful coaching experience in the assigned sport (major sports).
• The head coach must have substantial knowledge of the technical aspects of the sport and must continue to examine new theories and procedures pertinent to the field.
• The head coach must serve as an appropriate role model for student athletes through his/her instructions and actions.

Responsibilities

• Know all athletic policies approved by the board and implement them.
• Understand state and league regulations and interpret them for staff.
• Understand administrative command and refer grievances through proper channels; attend required meetings.
• Establish the fundamental philosophy, skills, and techniques to be taught by staff; design conferences, clinics, and staff meetings.
• Train, inform staff, and encourage professional growth and clinic attendance.
• Delegate duties, supervise implementation, and evaluate staff effectiveness at season's end.
• Maintain discipline, address grievances, and increase morale and cooperation.
• Perform other duties assigned by the athletic director or principal.
• Assist the athletic director in scheduling, transportation, and tournament requirements.
• Prepare for scheduled sport events or practices and coordinate the program with maintenance and school employees.
• Document state and system requirements for examinations, parental consent, eligibility.
• Safeguard workout equipment and locations.
• Recommend policy, method, or procedural changes.
• Mentor each athlete in character traits of trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, fairness, caring, and citizenship.
• Monitor athlete grades and conduct.
• Provide guidance and safety at all practices, games, and travel.
• Inform athletes of training rules and sport regulations.
• Initiate programs and policies concerning injuries, medical attention, and emergencies.
• Complete paperwork for disabling injuries and submit within 24 hours.
• Direct student managers, assistants, and statisticians.
• Determine discipline procedures; enforce due process; notify parents for ineligible or dropped athletes.
• Assist athletes with college or advanced education selection.
• Participate in budgeting with the athletic director; establish equipment requirements.
• Account for all equipment and collect costs for lost or not returned items.
• Manage equipment issuance, storage, and reconditioning; submit inventory records.
• Mark and identify all equipment before issuing or storing.
• Monitor equipment rooms and coach offices; authorize access.
• Enforce authorized areas for athletes.
• Check locker rooms before and after practices and games for cleanliness.
• Secure doors, lights, windows, and locks when custodians are not on duty.
• Instill respect for equipment and school property among players.
• Organize parents, coaches, players, and guests for preseason meetings.
• Promote the sport within the school, recruiting new athletes, and outreach to media and community.
• Ensure quality of releases to local media.
• Maintain positive public relations with media, booster club, parents, officials, volunteers, fans.
• Present schedules, tournaments, and results to media.

Reporting & Supervision

REPORTS TO: The athletic director, who provides overall objectives and final evaluation in conjunction with the high school principals.

SUPERVISES: The head coach must advise, coordinate and support a staff of high school assistant coaches and middle school coaches in conjunction with the athletic director and respective principal.
