Job summary

Vinton-Shellsburg Community School District in Vinton, IA is seeking a Part-Time Head Baseball Coach at VSCSD High School to lead the athletic program with integrity and a focus on student safety and sportsmanship.

The coach reports to the Activities Director and is responsible for planning practices, coordinating interscholastic contests, and supervising athletes. This role requires proper coaching credentials, CPR/First Aid, and a commitment to the district's standards.

Qualifications

• Valid Iowa Coaching Authorization or Athletic Coach Endorsement.
• Prior coaching experience preferred.
• Completion of Child Abuse Reporting Training.
• CPR and first aid certified.
• Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.

Responsibilities

• Promote sportsmanship and teamwork while helping students master the skills necessary to compete and excel in their specific sport in a safe, productive and well-organized athletic program.
• Adhere to applicable state and federal laws, rules and regulations, board policies and administrative rules.
• Maintain a "service orientation" and treat all students, parents, staff, and visitors with professional courtesy.
• Demonstrate a positive attitude toward school, students and job while communicating the same to the community.
• Attend seminars, trainings, classes, and professional development as needed to stay current with state and federal regulations and requirements and maintain licensure.
• Maintain professionalism related to confidentiality of student records and the school operation.
• Coach individual participants in the skills necessary for excellent achievement in the sport involved.
• Plan and schedule a regular program of practice in season.
• Oversee the safety conditions of the facility or area in which assigned sport is conducted at all times that students are present.
• Enforce discipline and sportsmanlike behavior at all times, and establish and oversee penalties for breach of such standards by individual students.
• Work cooperatively with Bus Drivers and Transportation Director to ensure safe and efficient transportation of student athletes to and from sporting events.
• Supervise student athletes at all time during school sanctioned practices and events to ensure safety and respectful and appropriate behavior towards teammates, competitors, and both home and away facilities and equipment.
• Keep building administrator informed of any injuries or behavior concerns.
