Job summary

Mount Desert Island Hospital is seeking a board-certified Family Medicine physician to provide comprehensive primary care in office, hospital, nursing home and home settings. You will perform histories, exams, cancer screenings, and patient education while diagnosing and treating illnesses and coordinating care across teams.

You will also handle telephone follow-ups, stabilize emergencies prior to transport, and supervise physician extenders to ensure continuous patient care across all sites.

Qualifications

• Board Certification.
• Credentialed by the MDI Hospital Medical Staff to practice Family Medicine.
• Maintains membership in the Active Medical Staff at MDI Hospital in good standing.
• DEA certified.
• BLS, ACLS and PALS certified.

Responsibilities

Description

Summary:

1. Provides quality health care in the community, in keeping with the community values and as outlined in the MDIHO Mission Statement.
2. Within the limits of a negotiated employment contract between the Physician employee and MDIHO, the Physician is responsible to provide primary care services to patients in all settings (office, hospital, nursing home, and home), including history and physical examinations, cancer screenings, patient/family education, diagnosing and treating presenting ailments, telephone follow-up, and stabilizing emergencies prior to transport to hospital. Supervises and provides backup to physician extenders in the office and hospital.

Physical Demands:

1. Ability to stand/walk for up to eight hours per day, bend, stoop, twist, assist patients in rising from exam table, push wheelchair patients, and assist patients in rising from and returning to wheelchair.
2. Able to perform under stress.
