Job summary

Planned Parenthood Texas Votes is seeking an HBCU Youth Organizer in Texas to lead campus advocacy and student engagement around reproductive health. You will recruit volunteers, develop campus programs, and coordinate events in collaboration with PPTV staff and partners.

The role includes field campaigns, training, and data management in VAN, with flexible hours including evenings and weekends. A driving license and a strong commitment to progressive causes are preferred.

Qualifications

  • Must be working towards a Bachelor's or Master's degree at an HBCU.
  • Experience in reproductive rights, public policy, politics, community organizing, or volunteer management preferred.
  • Ability to build relationships with Planned Parenthood supporters, PPTV staff, affiliates, and external partners.
  • Ability to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Knowledge of Google Drive, Microsoft Office, VAN and related tools preferred.
  • Flexible schedule including evenings and weekends; valid driver's license and access to a vehicle.
  • Passion for Planned Parenthood's mission and related progressive causes.
  • Enjoy meeting new people and learning from others; self-motivated and deadline-driven.

Job description

PERIOD: 2026/2027 Academic Year

LOCATION : HBCU University or College in Texas

PAY RATE: $1200 monthly stipend (15 Hours per week)

ORGANIZATION: Planned Parenthood Texas Votes (PPTV) is the statewide advocacy and political arm of the Planned Parenthood affiliates in Texas, referred to as “local Planned Parenthood organizations.” Planned Parenthood Texas Votes works to foster and preserve a social and political climate in Texas favorable to full reproductive health care access, through legislative advocacy, grassroots organizing, and electoral activity, to promote and protect the mission of local Planned Parenthood organizations in Texas.

The HBCU Youth Organizer is responsible for carrying out Planned Parenthood Texas Votes’ mission and advocacy objectives by engaging new and existing supporters in the fight for reproductive health in Texas. They will work closely with the Black Organizing Program staff at PPTV to develop campus programming. This includes developing volunteer leaders and advocates, building and attending campus and community events, and executing effective issue and voter education campaigns.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Start a Planned Parenthood Generation Action on campus.
  • Recruit, train, and activate volunteers on campus to support Planned Parenthood and access to reproductive healthcare by engaging in an advocacy campaign.
  • Meet weekly with the Organizing Manager.
  • Create a work plan with the Organizing Manager to execute field tactics such as campus campaigns, community events (virtual and in-person), and leadership development training.
  • Maintain all data in the Voter Activation Network (VAN), including new supporter sign-ups and events.
  • Build meaningful relationships with community partners and youth-based organizations to further reproductive rights and justice initiatives.
  • Manage, track, and report on chapter monthly activities in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Additional duties, as assigned.
EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION
  • Must be working towards a Bachelor’s or Master's degree from a Historically Black College or University.
  • Some experience directly related to reproductive rights, public policy, politics, community organizing, movement building, and/ or volunteer management is preferred.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships and work collaboratively with Planned Parenthood supporters and volunteers, PPTV and affiliate staff, as well as external partners and consultants.
  • Ability to meet deadlines in a fast-paced, deadline driven team environment .
  • Preferability knowledge of Google Drive, Microsoft Office Suite, VAN and other technical and political organizing tools.
  • Willing and able to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends.
  • Licensed driver with access to a reliable, insured vehicle.
  • Deep appreciation for the mission of Planned Parenthood and knowledge of and commitment to other progressive causes.
  • Enjoy meeting and speaking with new people, and sharing with and learning from others.
  • Self-motivated; able to identify priorities and complete work independently.
Training

As a HBCU Youth Organizer, you will participate in regional, state, and national training run by experienced Planned Parenthood staff. All Youth Organizers are required to attend and recruit young leaders for various training and events that will be held throughout the year. Additional training will supplement the valuable skills and experience you gain on your campus and/ or in your community.
