Job summary

Clean Harbors in East Chicago, IN seeks an Environmental Field Laborer to perform hazardous waste clean-up, site remediation, and decontamination tasks. Duties include transfer of bulk materials from tankers to railcars, operating equipment, and following strict safety protocols.

Position requires a valid driver’s license, physical stamina, and on-call emergency response. Training is provided; some overnight travel with per diem is possible.

Qualifications

• Reliable transportation.
• Ability to perform physical functions per key responsibilities.
• On-call emergency response availability; may include weekends/holidays.
• Background check, drug test, and physical as required by position.
• Respiratory protection standards per OSHA 29 CFR 1910.34.

Responsibilities

• Ensure Health and Safety is the primary goal by following policies and safe practices.
• Engage in strenuous physical labor including lifting and pulling heavy objects.
• Operate light and heavy equipment and use hand tools and powered tools.
• Wear and use PPE including respirators and protective gear in various combinations.
• Work in various temperatures, indoors and outdoors, in all weather conditions.
• Handle hazardous and non-hazardous waste safely and in compliance with regulations.
• Assist in field sampling and calibration of meters.
• Climb ladders and scaffolding; access trucks, tanks and containers.
• Be on-call for emergency response on rotating basis; some site remediation tasks.
