Job summary

Moffitt Cancer Center in Tampa, FL seeks a Hazardous Waste Technician to safely remove and transport medical waste, hazardous materials, and linen across the facility while maintaining clean loading docks and storage areas.

Under an Environmental Services Supervisor, you will follow infection control protocols, read safety data sheets, handle chemicals properly, and support meeting setups; six months of healthcare or ES experience is preferred.

This position performs a variety of duties that support the department in maintaining a clean environment for patients and staff.Essential FunctionsSafely remove and transport infectious/non-infectious waste including medical, hazardous, municipal, recycling, and linen from the facility to specified collection areasFollow an appropriate schedule to ensure timeliness of waste and soiled linen removal throughout the facilityMaintain cleanliness of the loading dock, trash compactor area, and trash containersMove furniture and other items from patient care hallways to maintain proper egressSetup and breakdown of tables and chairs for meetings and eventsComplete working knowledge of communicable diseases, blood-borne pathogens, isolation standards and transmission-based precautions, chain of infection, hand hygiene to ensure patient safety.Properly clean and disinfect all types of areas including clinical inpatient/outpatient (patient rooms, exam rooms, nurse stations, etc.), support/common areas, offices, labs, conference rooms, elevators, stairwells, corridors, external grounds, etc.)Handle and dispose of medical waste and sharps observing all required precautions, including properly tying and labeling bagsClean spills containing blood or other potentially infectious material using established infection control, safety, and ES departmental proceduresSafely uses, dilutes, and stores chemicals and cleaning materialsAbility to read and understand safety data sheets and hazard communication labelsMaintain positive relationships and good communication with patients, visitors, staff members, and those within the Environmental Services department.Report all facilities/maintenance issues to SupervisorEffectively communicates with staff within and outside of Environmental Services departmentComplete working knowledge of different types of hazardous materials (chemotherapy, pharmaceutical, bio-hazardous, sharps, pathological, microbiological, and bodily fluids) and how to properly handle and disposeMinimum Qualifications:Six months experience in the following: healthcare, Environmental Services, customer service, or hospitality.Ability to follow basic oral/written instructions in English (for the safety of our patients and staff in an emergency situation)* Completion of a healthcare environmental services training from MacDonald Training Center may also be considered in lieu of the six (6) months of experience. *Salary Range$16.25 - $22.86Salary ranges posted for this position represent the expected base pay range for the role.
