Job summary

State of Washington’s Fish and Wildlife Department seeks a Fish Hatchery Specialist 2 (In-Training) at the Goldendale Hatchery in Klickitat County. You will perform technical and scientific fish culture duties, monitor health, and maintain hatchery facilities.

The role includes record keeping, data entry, and compliance with permit requirements. New hires begin at Fish Hatchery Specialist 1 or 2 with a 12‑month training plan to advance to FHS2.

Qualifications

• Associate’s degree or equivalent in fisheries technology, biology, or related field.
• Three years of education towards a Bachelor’s degree in fisheries, biology, or related field.
• Completion of a fish culture program from a vocational school.
• Four years of experience performing fish culture duties in a hatchery.
• Valid driver’s license is required.

Responsibilities

• Perform fish culture duties and hatchery maintenance.
• Keep accurate records and reports using agency forms and software.
• Monitor water quality and hatchery systems; manage feed and rearing conditions.
• Ensure safety and cleanliness; respond to alarms and maintain facilities.
