Job summary

Johnsonville is hiring for Harvest floor positions in Wisconsin. Members will disassemble sow carcasses, remove hides, organs and carcass parts for sausage production, with various line-based roles on the Harvest Floor.

Responsibilities include cutting, cleaning and maintaining tools, adhering to GMP and safety policies, and participating in meetings and safety trainings. Prior knife skills are helpful, comfort with blood and odors is required, and ability to lift and stand for long shifts is

Position Overview

Harvest is the department at Johnsonville where Members disassemble the euthanized sows (female pigs), essentially removing from the body anything that won’t go into our brats, breakfast sausage and ground pork products. The Harvest Members have the task of taking a mostly untouched carcass and removing the hide, head, internal organs, and feet so that the De-Boning Department can then remove all the meat from the bones. There are a variety of different positions on the Harvest Floor, but all of them require some form of handling the sow’s body or body parts.

Responsibilities

• Cutting and preparing sow carcasses for further sausage processing


• Removing hide and internal organs, trimming, and inspecting the sow’s carcass


• Cleaning, sharpening, and maintaining knives, tools and equipment


• Learn and perform several job functions in department at line speed


• Adhere to all GMP (Good Manufacturing Practice) and Safety policies


• Attend all plant meetings and complete monthly safety observations and trainings


• Complete all other duties as assigned

Experience

Physical Demands

• Must be able to hand grip/lift up to 50 lbs, push 30 lbs, and pull 60 lbs

Other Requirements

• This job requires hands-on interaction with pig carcasses, along with various body parts and organs individually. We want to ensure that candidates for this position have a high enough comfort level with blood and internal organs of the sow.


• Ability to work with inside conditions that include exposure to moderate noise levels and moderate odor.


• Must be at least 18 years old


• Ability to pass a pre-employment, post-offer drug screen, physical and background check.
