We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Harness Engineer to support the development of state-of-the-art Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellite systems.
About the Role
In this role, you will be responsible for the design, development, integration, and testing of electrical harnesses that form a critical part of the spacecraft electrical system. You will help ensure reliable and efficient power and data transfer across the spacecraft while collaborating closely with electrical, mechanical, systems, manufacturing, and test engineering teams.
Responsibilities
- Design and develop electrical harnesses for LEO satellite systems, considering mission requirements, space constraints, thermal considerations, and EMC requirements.
- Collaborate with systems engineers, electrical designers, and mechanical engineers to define harness specifications and design constraints.
- Create and maintain detailed harness drawings, including cable and wire routing, connector selection, splicing, and termination plans using CAD tools.
- Ensure harness designs comply with applicable industry standards, including IPC-WHMA-A-620, ECSS-E-HB-10-10, and relevant space agency requirements.
- Conduct analyses and simulations to verify mechanical integrity, electrical performance, and environmental resistance.
- Support the fabrication, assembly, integration, and testing of electrical harnesses, ensuring quality and adherence to specifications.
- Perform in-house testing and validation, including continuity checks, insulation resistance testing, and signal integrity testing.
- Work with suppliers to source space-qualified components while supporting cost and schedule requirements.
- Document design and testing activities, including procedures, reports, results, and engineering design changes.
- Participate in design reviews and cross-functional engineering meetings, providing technical input and recommendations.
- Troubleshoot and resolve harness-related issues during spacecraft integration, testing, and in-orbit operations.
- Stay current with advancements in electrical harness technology and identify opportunities for design and process improvements.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in mechanical engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
Required Skills
- 3–5 years of experience in electrical harness design within the aerospace or space industry.
- Electrical harness design and integration.
- Cable and wire routing.
- Connector selection, splicing, and termination.
- Electrical and harness drawings.
- Continuity and insulation resistance testing.
- Signal integrity testing.
- EMC considerations.
- CAD tools, including Autodesk Inventor, Fusion 360 PLM and Vault.
- Harness design standards and schematic capture tools.
- Spacecraft integration and troubleshooting.
Preferred Skills
- Experience designing high-reliability electrical harnesses for small satellites, CubeSats, nano/microsatellites, or other spacecraft systems.
- Knowledge of space-rated materials and manufacturing processes.
- Familiarity with thermal analysis and thermal management techniques.
- Previous experience working with major aerospace organizations, space agencies, or satellite manufacturers.
