Job summary

Astranis invites an Harness Design Engineer Intern (Summer 2027) to join our team and work on flight and test harnessing for space systems. Interns gain hands-on experience designing wiring, schematics, and 3D harness routing with cross-functional teams.

Internships are twelve weeks, hourly roles for four-year university students. Graduate applicants may apply for an Associate Engineer role. Base pay is $29/hour with US citizen or eligible status required.

Qualifications

• Currently pursuing a B.S., M.S. or Ph.D. in mechatronics or electrical engineering (or equivalent technical degree).
• Interest in learning about, designing, and working with various spacecraft systems and subsystems.
• Familiar with power and data transmission concepts.

Responsibilities

• Work with the harnessing design team on designing flight and test harnessing
• Create wiring diagrams, block diagrams, schematics, and layout drawings of spacecraft harnessing
• Work with cross-functional teams to define interfaces between different subsystems
• Use CAD programs to route harnessing in 3D
• Utilize EE fundamentals to select appropriate design components based on various requirements like voltage, power, frequency, and data-rate
• Work with production to fabricate in-house cables

Harness Design Engineer Intern (Summer 2027)

Internships at Astranis typically last for twelve weeks, and are hourly roles designed for students who are currently enrolled at a four-year university.

As an Intern, you will have an amazing opportunity to work on hard problems - we pride ourselves on giving everyone at Astranis a chance to do meaningful work on challenging projects, no matter their seniority. Many past interns have designed and tested hardware/software that is heading to space on our first satellite, and many of them are now full-time employees at Astranis.

• Work with the harnessing design team on designing flight and test harnessing

Requirements:

• Currently pursuing a B.S., M.S. or Ph.D. in mechatronics or electrical engineering (or equivalent technical degree)
• Interest in learning about, designing, and working with various spacecraft systems and subsystems
• Familiar with power and data transmission concepts

Bonus:

• Experience with Zuken (or other harness design software)
• Experience with various connectors and wire types including MIL circular and D-Sub/microD
• Experience with 3D CAD software like Solidworks

The base pay for this position is $29.00 per hour.
