Job summary

Quantinuum in Broomfield, Colorado seeks a Hardware Technician to assemble, test, and support ultra-high-vacuum hardware for quantum computer systems. You will work closely with engineers and physicists in a fast-paced lab environment, maintaining records and ensuring quality across builds.

Candidate must have strong hands-on hardware experience, a background in R&D or manufacturing, and the ability to troubleshoot complex systems in a controlled environment. Pre-employment tests may apply.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma/GED minimum.
  • Minimum 5 years hands-on hardware experience in R&D or manufacturing.
  • US Person per contractual requirements.
  • Not a PRC or Russian national unless also a US citizen.

Responsibilities

  • Assemble, integrate, test, and validate ultra-high-vacuum systems.
  • Coordinate daily work and help team meet quality and schedule commitments.
  • Operate and troubleshoot production/test equipment including vacuum systems and leak detectors.
  • Perform precision cleaning and contamination-controlled assembly in cleanroom environments.
  • Troubleshoot hardware and document findings; support root-cause investigations.
  • Develop or improve work instructions, travelers, fixtures, and test methods.
  • Maintain production records and equipment logs.
  • Support 5S, safety, and continuous-improvement efforts.

Job description

We are seeking a Hardware Technician in our Broomfield, CO, location. This role will perform and help coordinate the hands-on assembly, testing, troubleshooting, and production support of complex ultra-high vacuum (UHV) hardware for trapped-ion quantum computers.

All applicants for placement in safety-sensitive positions will be required to submit to a pre-employment drug test.


Key Responsibilities:
  • Assemble, integrate, test, and validate ultra-high-vacuum, mechanical, and electrical systems.
  • Serve as a hands-on operator for assigned builds by coordinating daily work, escalating constraints, and helping the team meet quality and schedule commitments.
  • Set up, operate, maintain, and troubleshoot production and test equipment such as vacuum systems, helium leak detectors, ovens, cryogenic systems, and electrical test equipment.
  • Perform precision cleaning, handling, assembly, inspection, and testing in cleanroom and laboratory environments while following contamination-control, safety, and quality requirements.
  • Troubleshoot hardware and process issues using structured problem-solving methods; document findings, support root-cause investigations, and help implement and verify corrective actions.
  • Partner with engineers and physicists to develop, improve, and standardize assembly processes, work instructions, build travelers, fixtures, tooling, test methods, and acceptance criteria.
  • Maintain accurate production records, test data, equipment logs, material status, nonconformance documentation, and as-built configuration records in the team’s approved systems.
  • Maintain clean, organized, audit-ready work areas and actively contribute to 5S, equipment readiness, safety, quality, yield, cycle-time, and other continuous-improvement efforts.
YOU MUST HAVE:
  • High School Diploma/ GED minimum
  • Minimum 5 years of hands-on experience assembling, testing, maintaining, or troubleshooting complex hardware in an R&D, or manufacturing environment.
  • Due to Contractual requirements, must be a U.S. Person defined as, U.S. citizen permanent resident or green card holder, workers granted asylum or refugee status
  • Due to national security requirements imposed by the U.S. Government, candidates for this position must not be a People's Republic of China national or Russian national unless the candidate is also a U.S. citizen.
WE VALUE:
  • Associate or bachelor’s degree in a technical discipline.
  • Experience assembling and troubleshooting vacuum systems, including vacuum hardware, pumps, gauges, fittings, seals, and helium leak detection.
  • Experience performing precision assembly, component cleaning, inspection, and contamination-controlled work in a cleanroom or similarly controlled environment.
  • Experience with cryogenic systems, precision mechanical assemblies, optics, photonics, aerospace hardware, semiconductor equipment, or complex scientific instrumentation.
  • Experience using mechanical and electrical test equipment and interpreting test data to identify hardware or process issues.
  • Experience developing or improving work instructions, build travelers, fixtures, tooling, test procedures, work cells, preventive-maintenance plans, or training materials.
  • A safety- and quality-first mindset, strong attention to detail, disciplined organization, and comfort managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

$66,000 - $105,000 a year

Compensation & Benefits:

The base pay range for this role is $66,000 – $105,000 annually. Actual compensation within this range may vary based on the candidate’s skills, educational background, professional experience, and unique qualifications for the role.
