Job summary

Great Sky, Inc. is seeking a Hardware Platform Software Engineer to extend our software stack that operates cutting-edge hardware.

The role centers on building a hardware abstraction layer and a flexible experiment framework to enable rapid, reliable measurements on our chips, with a unified API across simulated and real backends. You will own the platform software interface, ensure robust telemetry and diagnostics, and drive parity tests across hardware revisions.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Physics, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
• 5+ years of professional software engineering for control of real physical hardware.
• Ownership of an API or abstraction layer used by other engineers.
• Proficiency in Python and working proficiency in at least one systems language (C/C++/Rust).
• Hands-on experience orchestrating lab instrumentation in software (SCPI, DAQs, AWGs, cameras, motion stages, cryogenic systems).
• Strong testing instincts: unit, integration, and regression testing, hardware-in-the-loop testing, and simulation parity testing.
• Excellent technical writing and communication: architecture documentation and cross-disciplinary contracts.

Responsibilities

• Build an enhanced hardware abstraction layer (HAL) translating AI framework calls to driver-level hardware operations.
• Develop a robust experiment framework for easy-to-declare measurement routines.
• Provide analysis pipelines to maximize value from inferences and measurements.
• Present a unified API for simulated and physical backends and integrate with the existing simulation framework.
• Define and maintain middleware between the driver layer and AI frameworks with telemetry, diagnostics, and regression testing.
