We are seeking an experienced Hardware Manager to take ownership of the mechanical design and development of advanced robotic systems while providing technical leadership and guidance to a team of technicians.
This is a hands-on technical leadership position rather than a people management role. You will serve as the subject matter expert for mechanical design, supporting technicians throughout the build, assembly, prototyping, and testing phases while working closely with multidisciplinary engineering teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and develop mechanical systems and components for advanced robotic and automation platforms.
- Produce detailed 3D CAD models, assemblies, and manufacturing drawings.
- Optimise designs for performance, reliability, manufacturability, and cost efficiency.
- Conduct mechanical simulations, validation activities, and performance testing.
- Support prototyping, evaluation, and design iteration throughout the product development lifecycle.
- Partner with electrical and software engineers to ensure seamless system integration.
- Act as the primary technical point of contact for technicians during fabrication, assembly, and testing activities.
- Translate engineering designs into clear work instructions and technical documentation.
- Provide hands‑on guidance and troubleshooting support during build and prototype phases.
- Review completed work to ensure quality standards and design intent are maintained.
- Establish and promote best practices for assembly processes, tooling, documentation, and build quality.
- Mentor technicians and share mechanical engineering expertise to support team development.
- Capture feedback from the shop floor and incorporate lessons learned into future design improvements.
- Source mechanical components and materials.
- Liaise with suppliers, manufacturers, and procurement teams to coordinate fabrication and delivery schedules.
- Support quality control activities and supplier performance reviews.
- Manage design updates related to manufacturing requirements and lead-time considerations.
Skills & Experience
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Engineering Science, Computational Mechanics, or a related discipline.
- Minimum 5 years' experience in mechanical design engineering within robotics, automation, special-purpose machinery, or similar engineering environments.
- Strong proficiency in CAD software such as SolidWorks, Creo, AutoCAD, or equivalent.
- Experience supporting prototyping, mechanical testing, and product validation.
- Strong understanding of manufacturing processes, material selection, and mechanical system integration.
- Experience providing technical guidance, mentoring, or leadership to technicians or junior engineers.
- Comfortable working in a hands‑on engineering and workshop environment.
- Excellent problem-solving, communication, and collaboration skills.
- Ability to travel internationally when required (approximately 25%).
- Experience developing robotic, autonomous, or highly automated systems.
- Knowledge of design for manufacture (DFM) and design for assembly (DFA) principles.
- Experience working within fast-paced product development or R&D environments.
What's on Offer
- Competitive yearly salary (depending on experience)
- Medical, dental, and vision insurance for you and your dependents
