Job Description

We are looking for a Hardware Engineering Scientist to lead the execution of new development programs and support sustaining efforts for the MIDS JTRS product line and variants within the Broadband Communications Systems (BCS) sector. The selected candidate will provide technical direction and oversight to other hardware engineers within the group and work closely with cross‑functional team members (Systems, Software, Program Management, etc.). The candidate will also work closely with the customer to ensure deliveries on time and meet all hardware requirements.

Essential Functions
  • Act as lead hardware engineer on various programs, ensuring designs and product performance meet customer specifications.
  • Apply configuration management principles to design documentation and maintain technical data packages.
  • Lead engineering program technical, schedule, and cost performance for projects with Hardware Engineering scope, including proposal reviews, engineering program reviews, and oversight of key technical decisions.
  • Participate in and/or lead failure investigations related to design, production build processes, and customer returns.
  • Contribute to new business pursuits by growing cross‑functional relationships in business development and across business areas.
  • Partner and work closely with Engineering Leadership, Business Development, and Program Management to ensure strategy alignment, project execution, and cross‑team collaboration to achieve sector objectives.
  • Work closely with Operations to transition new hardware designs to production/manufacturing using established processes.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to work effectively with customers and teammates.
  • Ability to travel 5-10% of the time.
  • Active Secret U.S. security clearance.
Required Qualifications (one of the following, plus a Secret Clearance minimum)
  • Bachelor’s Degree and minimum 12 years of prior related experience.
  • Graduate Degree with minimum 10 years of prior related experience.
  • In lieu of a degree, minimum 14 years of prior related experience.
  • Must have an active Secret U.S. security clearance.
Preferred Additional Skills
  • Experience in the design of high‑reliability electronic radio products and related subassemblies, including PCB and FPGA development.
  • Deep experience in Electrical Engineering and prior work experience within the Defense industry.
  • Experience and demonstrated competence in technical leadership for large complex programs and IRAD efforts.
  • Strong understanding of both PCB hardware and FPGA design development flows.
  • Experience in system‑level development, requirements definition, analysis, integration, and risk mitigation for large communications systems.
  • Strong team player with experience leading highly technical teams.
  • Track record of being highly collaborative with proven ability to quickly establish trust and credibility among peers and customers.
  • Ability to communicate confidently and concisely with engineers and executive management.
Compensation & Benefits

In compliance with pay transparency requirements, the salary range for this role in California is $153,000 - 284,000. This is not a guarantee of compensation or salary; the final offer amount may vary based on factors including but not limited to experience and geographic location.
