Job summary

Insight Global is seeking a Hardware-In-Test-Loop (HITL) Engineer to develop real-time simulation environments for testing embedded control software in inverter/converter applications.

The role emphasizes hands-on work with HIL/HITL platforms, MATLAB/Simulink, and power electronics including IGBT/SCR/SiC, collaborating with controls and software teams to validate models and controller software against system requirements in a high-performance setting.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics, Mechatronics, or related STEM discipline.
  • 3–5 years of experience with HIL/HITL system design and real-time simulation.
  • Strong MATLAB/Simulink experience for model-based development.
  • Hands‑on experience with Opal-RT or comparable real-time simulation platforms such as Speedgoat or dSPACE.
  • Strong understanding of inverter and converter control systems.
  • Experience with IGBT, SCR, and/or Silicon Carbide/SiC power device technologies.
  • Familiarity with CAN, SPI, UART, Ethernet protocols.
  • Experience testing embedded software within power electronics applications.
  • Ability to develop plant models that represent power converter topologies.
  • Experience integrating models with real-time simulation platforms - RT-LAB / Simulink Real-Time.

Responsibilities

  • Support design, development, validation, and maintenance of real-time simulation environments for embedded control software.
  • Collaborate with controls and software teams to ensure full validation against system requirements.
  • Assist in testing and qualifying inverter/converter power electronics models in HIL/HITL rigs.

Insight Global is seeking a Hardware-In-Test-Loop (HITL) Engineer for a top transportation and power electronics client. This candidate will support the design, development, validation, and maintenance of real-time simulation environments used to test embedded control software for inverter and converter applications. The ideal candidate will have strong experience with MATLAB/Simulink, HIL platforms, and power electronics systems involving IGBT, SCR, and SiC technologies. This role is highly hands‑on and will partner closely with controls and software teams to ensure controller software is fully validated against system requirements in a high‑performance engineering environment.

  • Familiarity with industrial communication protocols such as CAN, SPI, UART, and Ethernet
  • Experience testing embedded software within power electronics applications
  • Ability to develop plant models that represent power converter topologies
  • Experience integrating models with real-time simulation platforms - Experience with Simulink Real‑Time or RT‑LAB environments
  • Knowledge of sensor and actuator emulation techniques
  • Background in locomotive drives, locomotive electrical controls, industrial drives, automotive systems, or renewable energy
  • Familiarity with software testing frameworks
  • Experience with version control systems
  • Experience supporting inverter controller software validation
  • Ability to troubleshoot real-time execution issues and simulation model fidelity
