Job summary

Cyvl in Boston/Somerville is seeking a Hardware Summer Engineering Intern to work directly on our sensor stack used by cities across the country. You will collaborate with engineering and product teams and gain hands-on experience in hardware design, testing, and rapid prototyping.

Ideal candidates are pursuing a degree in robotics or EE/ME, have CAD skills in SolidWorks or Onshape, and are excited to learn. This in-person internship offers mentorship and real project impact.

Qualifications

• Currently pursuing a degree in Robotics, Mechanical Engineering, or Electrical Engineering.
• 3D CAD fluency; SolidWorks preferred, Onshape also acceptable.
• Ability to develop and execute tests including fixtures, test plans, and simple scripts.
• Excitement to learn new technologies and apply them quickly.
• Strong communication skills and ability to work collaboratively.
• Able to work in person at our Somerville, MA office.

Responsibilities

• Design and iterate sensor mounts and enclosures in CAD, from sketch to printed parts you can hold.
• Develop and execute tests; design fixtures, write test plans/reports, and automate testing with scripts (Python, Bash).
• Work closely with engineers who will mentor you with regular pairing and feedback.

About You

As a Hardware Summer Engineering Intern at Cyvl, you won’t be stuck on side projects. You'll work directly on our sensor stack that ride on the vehicles mapping roads for cities across the country. You'll collaborate with our engineering and product teams, and learn how hardware actually gets designed, tested, and built in a fast-moving startup.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and iterate sensor mounts and enclosures in CAD, from first sketch to printed and machined parts you can hold.




• Ability to develop and execute tests including designing fixtures, writing concise test plans and reports, and writing simple scripts(python, bash) to automate testing.




• Work closely with engineers who will invest in your growth — regular pairing and direct feedback on your work.

Qualifications

Required:

• Currently pursuing a degree in Robotics, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.




• 3D CAD fluency. Preference is to Solidworks but Onshape, etc is welcomed as well!




• Ability to develop and execute tests including designing fixtures, writing concise test plans and reports, and writing simple scripts(python, bash) to automate testing.




• Excitement to learn new technologies and apply them quickly.




• Strong communication skills and the ability to work in a collaborative environment.




• Able to work in person at our Somerville, MA office.

Nice to Have:

• Portfolio is a nice to have! Doesn't have to be perfect but we want to see that you have built things.




• Designing for outdoor, automotive, or industrial applications(weatherproofing, shock and vibration)




• An understanding of DFX methods(manufacturability, usability, repairability, etc)
