Job summary

Hewlett Packard Enterprise seeks an undergraduate hardware engineering intern to join our onsite team in California. You will support senior engineers on technical projects, diagnose issues, and provide hands-on lab support for hardware quality initiatives.

You will gain experience with PCB layout, schematic capture, and verification of Ethernet-related components while collaborating with cross-functional teams in a fast-paced R&D environment.

Qualifications

  • Pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering.
  • Solid experience with hardware design and schematic capture tools.
  • Experience with board design layout and multi-layer considerations.
  • Hands-on lab testing of hardware with Ethernet-related components.
  • Team project experience outside coursework.

Responsibilities
Job Description
  • Support senior team members on assigned technical projects as determined by the business unit.
  • Help identify and troubleshoot technical issues.

Education & Experience
  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering.
  • Solid experience and proficiency with electrical circuit design, schematic design and schematic capture tools. Clear proficiency with multiple aspects of hardware design, which may include digital logic design, CPU subsystem design, clocks, signal integrity, power delivery and analog components.
  • Experience with board design layout and familiarity with multiple-layer board considerations.
  • Team project experience outside of coursework.
  • Hands-on experience testing L2/L3 products with Ethernet packet generators.
Knowledge & Skills
  • Passion for building hardware projects and solving challenging problems.
  • Skilled debugging capability and intrinsically curious about how things work.
  • Understanding of how PCIe, Ethernet, I2C and high speed SerDes work at the hardware level.
  • Capable scripting skills using Python.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Self-motivated team player, and capable of working in a fast-paced R&D environment.
  • Understanding of Ethernet routing and switching.
  • Familiarity with FPGAs and Verilog.
  • Comfortable in a Unix/Linux environment.
Impact/Scope
  • University students actively enrolled in a university/college/institution pursuing a Bachelor's degree in a technical area of study, and who typically works during school breaks and then returns to their university. While this applies to most interns, there may be opportunities for full-time students to work as part-time interns during the school year in some countries.
