Job summary

MOBIS North America is seeking a Hardware Engineer specializing in automotive electronics, PCB/circuit design and electronic control modules. You will work with CAN, I2C, SPI, USB and Ethernet protocols and coordinate between OEMs and MOBIS HQ and global engineering teams.

Responsibilities include leading hardware development from concept to production, supporting vehicle-level validation, and driving milestones and design reviews with cross-functional teams.

MOBIS Technical Center of North America is a Research & Development center, and a Tier 1 supplier. MOBIS produces and supplies a wide variety of automotive components to customers including component modules (chassis, cockpit and front-end module), core system, eco-friendly and DAS-mechatronics. Mobis delivers the design and development of advanced engineering, autonomous driving, infotainment, component modules, safety, brake and steering systems, lamp, ICs/electronics and software development solutions that consider the safety and convenience of our customers as well as the future.

Position Overview

Hardware Engineer specializing in automotive electronics, PCB/circuit design, and electronic control modules. Skilled in communication protocols (CAN, I2C, SPI, USB, Ethernet), root cause analysis, field failure investigation, and translating OEM requirements into hardware solutions. Proven ability to lead technical coordination between OEMs and global engineering teams, manage project milestones, support vehicle-level validation, and drive products from concept through production.

Essential Functions and Skills

• Understand design and manufacturing of electronic control modules and components.
• Experience working with vehicle electrical connectors, housings, and insulators.
• Understand protocols including I2C, SPI, CAN, RS232, USB, and Ethernet.
• Perform field failure analysis and solution evaluation for production product issues.
• Work with various CAD interfaces, including Zuken, Mentor Graphics, or others.
• Perform PCB/circuit design, including digital/analog, video input/output, power, communication, and LVDS.
• Apply working knowledge of components, including Deserializer, Micro application, CAN transceiver, Power (PMIC/Buck Converter), CPU, and LED driver.
• Manage schedules and milestones.
• Analyze customer and internal requirements and specifications and translate these into hardware designs.
• Perform root cause analysis of electrical issues at sample, bench, and vehicle level.
• Support OEM development stage events based on product development timing.
• Support electronic product design and development and OEM automotive subsystems.
• Act as Liaison Hardware Engineer and coordinate with MOBIS HQ and OEM from concept design through final design requirements, including design reviews, changes, and feasibility reviews.
• Control and support Hardware Engineering data/documents delivery between OEM and MOBIS HQ.
• Work onsite at MNA and frequently offsite at OEM facilities.

Education/Certification/Years Of Experience

• Engineering Degree, B.S. in Electrical Engineering or equivalent preferred.
• Approximately 5+ years of experience in electronic product design or working in the automotive industry with a focus on PCB and circuit design.

Desired Specialized Skills And Knowledge

• Working knowledge of engineering concepts and principles.
• Excellent communication skills in terms of collaborating with R&D, marketing, manufacturing, domestic and third-party suppliers, and customers.
• Excellent ability to identify and drive resolution to engineering problems.
• Hands‑on experience with Oscilloscope and Spectrum analyzer.
• Ability to read schematics, block diagrams, and system requirements.
• Self‑starter with strong analytical and problem‑solving skills.
• Self‑motivated, goal‑oriented, with strong written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
• Previous automotive engineering experience at a Tier 1 Supplier.
• Design‑level Hardware Engineering experience with Major OEMs.
• International joint work experience.
• Experience with spectrometer and luminance meter is a plus.
• Working knowledge of issue mitigation and management systems (PLM) is a plus.

• Ability to travel to manufacturing locations in the USA and global locations.

• Have great attention to detail.

Working Relationships

• Reports to: Engineering Manager of Infotainment Displays.
• Work and communicate with local customers, local team members, and research engineers from Korea and/or in Korea.
• Project(s) may accompany HQ research engineers remotely or on the business site.
• Consult with Expatriate Coordinator to enhance communication with R&D HQ.

Physical Demands

• Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
• Must be able to lift 15 pounds at times.
• Must be able to access and navigate each department at the organization's facilities.

Expected Hours Of Work

• A typical work week is 45 hours/week.
• Working hours for employees are flexible with a typical day starting 7am- 9am M-F.
• Hybrid work schedule- 3 days on site required.

Work Environment

• Office work is normally performed in a typical interior work environment which does not subject the employee to any hazardous or unpleasant elements.
