Job summary

OpenAI is seeking a Hardware Finance Manager to own an assigned area of hardware COGS and inventory end to end. This individual-contributor role requires hands-on expertise across multiple domains and the ability to build reusable analytical workflows.

You will partner with product, supply chain, and finance to support critical business decisions. The role emphasizes data integrity, forecasting improvements, and clear communication of complex financial issues to senior stakeholders.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of consumer hardware or complex physical-product finance experience.
• Hands-on expertise across multiple domains with ownership in at least two.
• Strong financial modeling, analytical, communication, and stakeholder-influence skills.

Responsibilities

• Own an assigned area of hardware COGS and inventory end to end.
• Own forecasting, close, and business variance analysis for the assigned scope.
• Provide hardware leadership with variance explanations, trend analysis, and forward-looking signals connecting inventory, cash, COGS, and margin.
• Partner with business teams to establish financial data, systems, and dashboards for analysis.
• Ensure data integrity and governance with clear definitions, ownership, and controls.
• Improve forecasting, reporting, systems, and finance processes for scalability.
• Build cross-functional relationships and identify risks, opportunities, and tradeoffs early.
• Develop scenarios and recommendations for leadership decisions.
• Partner across Supply Chain, Operations, Product, Accounting, Systems/Data, and Finance.
• Drive alignment without formal authority and communicate complex issues clearly to senior stakeholders.
• Develop expertise in adjacent COGS or inventory domains as priorities evolve.
