Job summary

Origin Design in Dubuque, IA is seeking a Structural Engineering Intern to gain hands-on technical experience through meaningful project work across commercial, education, industrial, residential, and bridge structures.

You will work with licensed professionals to learn project administration, engineering documentation, and design support, gaining exposure to design techniques and construction materials such as concrete, steel, wood and aluminum, using Revit for construction documents.

Responsibilities

• Work under the direction of a Licensed Professional Engineer.
• Research design criteria including building codes, standards, and regulatory requirements.
• Provide documentation of existing conditions.
• Perform engineering assignments requiring application of engineering formulas, standard techniques, procedures, and criteria.
• Prepare structural calculations incorporating hand calculations to support software results.
• Prepare document review comments and detail sketches to convey the design intent.
• Develop design aids as productivity tools for staff use (e.g., spreadsheets, etc.).
• Assist support staff in producing construction documents using Revit.
• Review construction submittals for conformance with contract documents.
