Day One Partners is partnering with a fast-growing, private membership-based technology platform focused on connecting people, experiences, and opportunities around the world. The company is building thoughtful tools, not endless engagement loops, and believes in human connection, trust, and creativity as core values. They're now looking for a Senior Engineering Manager to lead their growing engineering team.

This is a key leadership role with both hands-on engineering responsibilities and people management. You’ll work closely with the leadership team to drive high-impact initiatives while mentoring and scaling a team of talented engineers.

What You’ll Do

• Lead, mentor, and manage a team of software engineers, with a focus on backend development in Node.js
• Collaborate cross-functionally with product, design, and data teams to align technical solutions with business goals
• Balance hands-on engineering (about 50% of the time) with people leadership and project management
• Guide the development of scalable, secure, and efficient cloud-based systems
• Implement best practices in design, development, testing, and operations
• Oversee an agile development process, ensuring communication, collaboration, and responsiveness
• Partner with leadership on sourcing, interviewing, and hiring top-tier engineering talent
• Support and grow an engineering culture focused on operational excellence, including on-call readiness, observability, and production health

What We’re Looking For

• 4+ years of experience managing high-performing software engineering teams
• Deep experience in Node.js backend systems
• Familiarity with cloud services, distributed systems, and scalable architectures
• Proven ability to manage complex projects and deliver on commitments
• Strong people leadership skills, with experience in mentorship and team growth
• Hands-on coding ability and willingness to contribute technically
• Excellent communication skills, with the ability to work cross-functionally with leadership, product, design, and data teams
• Experience developing and running operational excellence programs (e.g., production readiness, observability, on-call management)

Nice to Have

• Experience in membership-based platforms or consumer-facing apps
• Familiarity with data-driven product development
• Passion for building technology that fosters real-world connections and communities
