Caterpillar Inc. invites applicants to join the Tucson Proving Ground for a two‑year, paidInstrumentation Lab Apprenticeship.

This program provides hands‑on training in instrumentation, sensors, data acquisition, and electrical troubleshooting to support product testing and validation. As a learning‑focused role, apprentices work beside experienced technicians, earning while learning and receiving tuition support and mentorship.

Qualifications

• Enrolled at Pima Community College in a relevant program such as AIT, Electronics or Electrical Technology, Eng Tech or related programs.
• Commit to a minimum 32 hours per week while completing related instruction; typical shift 7:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.
• Interest in instrumentation, electronics, and hands-on technical work; basic computer skills (MS Office).
• Comfort using computers to access work instructions and technical docs.

Responsibilities

• Build, modify, and repair instrumentation cables and harnesses.
• Install, maintain, and repair strain gauges, sensors and related instrumentation.
• Perform soldering and fine assembly work to support instrumentation needs.
• Assist with data acquisition system setup, troubleshooting, and basic verification.
• Follow wiring diagrams, schematics and engineering documentation; prepare hardware for tests.
• Support testing activities and develop foundational knowledge of instrumentation systems.
