Job summary

The JAM l People in Robotics in New York City seeks a hands-on Head of Engineering to lead the hardware and mechanics for autonomous robotic systems. You will set architectures for data-collection platforms, end effectors and customer workcells, guiding prototypes through testing, production and deployment.

You will design grippers, workcells, and data hardware, lead cross-disciplinary decisions, and collaborate with deployment teams to solve field challenges.

Qualifications

• 8+ years in robotics, automation or complex electromechanical hardware.
• Strong mechanical design and CAD skills.
• Track record of owning systems from early requirements through deployment.
• Comfortable setting technical direction while hands-on with prototypes and field testing.

Responsibilities

• Design and improve grippers, end effectors and manipulation hardware.
• Architect complete workcells across robot arms, cameras, sensors, compute, power and safety systems.
• Lead design reviews, validation, and failure investigations.
• Collaborate with deployment teams and customers to commission systems in the field.
• Help take systems from prototype through testing, production and deployment.
