Varo Bank is seeking a hands-on Chief Information Security Officer to lead and scale our digital security program for a nationwide banking platform. You will bridge threat intelligence, cloud security, and regulatory compliance while guiding a cross-functional security team.

This role demands deep banking and fintech security expertise, practical DevSecOps experience, and the ability to communicate risk to the CEO and Board.

Qualifications

• Experience in a regulated bank or financial services institution with OCC/FDIC familiarity.
• Practical security expertise across cloud security, modern infrastructure, and DevSecOps pipelines.
• Strong threat intelligence and SOC management capabilities.
• Proven ability to build and mentor diverse security teams with empathy and candor.
• Ability to translate vulnerabilities and risk metrics for the CEO and Board.

Responsibilities

• Design, implement, and monitor a comprehensive information security program across a digital banking platform.
• Build and safeguard cloud-native infrastructure with zero-trust and automated threat protection.
• Oversee threat monitoring, incident response, and proactive risk mitigation.
• Ensure alignment with OCC, FDIC, and federal banking regulations.
• Mentor a collaborative security team and embed security mindset across product and engineering teams.
