Job summary

Piedmont Candy Company in Lexington, NC is hiring a hands-on Maintenance Lead for the 2nd shift to run the maintenance team. You will troubleshoot, repair, and perform PMs on high‑speed packaging equipment and PLC systems, while coaching 2–3 technicians and keeping production running.

The role requires 6+ years of hands-on maintenance experience (or 4+ with a relevant technical degree), strong PLC skills, and the ability to read schematics.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED.
• 6+ years hands-on industrial maintenance (or 4+ years with relevant technical degree).
• 1+ year leading or directing maintenance technicians.
• Strong PLC troubleshooting and programming skills (Allen Bradley or equivalent).
• Working knowledge of 3-phase motors, VFDs, relays, motor controls, sensors, and servo drives.
• Ability to read electrical schematics and wiring diagrams.
• Experience with pneumatics, hydraulics, and mechanical systems on high-speed packaging equipment.
• Diagnostic tools, precision measuring instruments, and electrical test equipment.
• Clear communicator who can make good decisions under pressure.
• Basic Microsoft Office and CMMS skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead the 2nd shift maintenance team and coordinate 2–3 technicians.
• Assign and prioritize breakdown repairs, PMs, and projects by production needs.
• Train and mentor technicians in PLC troubleshooting and electrical safety.
• Maintain shift handoffs with prior/next shifts and managers.
• Ensure PMs and work orders are completed on time and logged in CMMS.
• Provide input on technician performance, training needs, and hiring.
• Coordinate with production, quality, and supervise downtime reduction.
• Escalate major failures and parts/resource needs to management.
• Model and enforce GMP, LOTO, PPE, and food safety practices.
