Qualifications

  • Flexibility to work at all UCSF Medical Center locations.
  • Preferred: Graduate degree in Occupational Therapy.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct and indirect patient care for adults and geriatrics.

Hand therapist with California advanced practice licenses in hand therapy and physical agent modalities is required; Certified Hand Therapist is preferred.

Position Overview

The Staff Occupational Therapist, Occupational Therapist II, reports to the Clinical Supervisor, Occupational Therapy and provides both direct and indirect patient care services. The O.T. II works primarily with adult and geriatric patients from diverse socioeconomic and cultural backgrounds, though pediatric and adolescent patients may also be treated. Under general direction and upon receipt of written referrals, the Staff Therapist O.T. II plans and administers a full range of occupational therapy services for patients with physical and cognitive impairments and disabilities. Services include patient evaluations using various physical, cognitive and visual/perceptual tests and measurements, establishment of therapeutic intervention goals and development of therapeutic intervention programs, and implementation of therapeutic intervention plans utilizing occupational therapy techniques. The Staff Occupational Therapist maintains all applicable patient records related to patient care services. While performing job duties, the Staff O.T. may also supervise support personnel including Certified Occupational Therapy Assistants, Rehabilitation Aides, O.T. and O.T.A. students. The Staff O.T. actively participates in departmental and organizational programs, including performance improvement activities, clinical education programs, and inservices and staff development activities.

  • Exposure to loud noise, background noise, dust, fumes, chemicals, or other environmental hazards.
  • Lifting, carrying, pushing, and operating motor vehicles as required with weights up to 60 lbs above waist or below waist.
  • Use of protective equipment and compliance with safety protocols.
Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum of 12 months experience as a licensed therapist.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to recognize signs of distress.
  • Possession of or proven eligibility for CPR certification.
  • Basic computer skills in word processing and online communication.
  • Good interpersonal, time management, problem solving, and self‑initiation skills.
  • Flexibility to work at all UCSF Medical Center locations.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior occupational therapy experience in an academic medical center environment.
  • Prior experience working on an interdisciplinary health provider team.
  • Graduate degree or certificate in Occupational Therapy from an accredited professional educational program.

Required Licenses & Certifications

  • Licensure as an Occupational Therapist by the Occupational Therapy Board of California (or proven eligibility).
